Finding the right fit for a tutor is important. I always meet with parents and students for a free consultation to introduce myself. 23 years experience has honed my ability to identify and build on each student’s strengths to raise student grades and test scores with practical effective strategies. I've earned a Master's of Arts in Teaching - English Literature, B.A. English Literature, TEFL (Tea
ch English as a Foreign Language), and continue to take college courses in History, English Literature, and Philosophy. I successfully tutor multiple academic subjects, the SAT, ACT, SSAT, GED, and the ASVAB tests. All students with whom I work routinely raise SAT scores by 200 points and ACT scores by 4 composite points. Students improve at least a full grade or more in English, History, Mathematics, Natural Science. I work with high school, college, and university students. Further, my brother has a profound learning disability. I have an intimate understanding of these students' personal struggles and the patience required to understand their unique learning styles. Working one on one with a student as a tutor is a rewarding personal experience based on mutual trust. The student cannot hide one on one as he or she can in a large class. If they do not understand something, it is apparent. It builds character to say, "I don't know;" it takes courage. I respect this relationship by always remaining positive and providing instruction as a leader or coworker, not as an authoritarian. I never ask the student to do anything that I am not willing to do myself, and I never condescend. Mistakes are part of the learning process. It is not a teacher's perfection that inspires students, it is his or her authenticity and genuine care for the student's success. A teacher is not only imparting knowledge along the generations, but a teacher models the behavior of discovery and the sheer enjoyment of learning and academic achievement. Finding the right fit for a tutor is important, and so I always meet with prospective parents and students for a free consultation so that I may introduce myself and outline a plan of action. However, with the pandemic hanging over our heads, introductions may need to be altered. I will always speak with you on the phone as long as necessary to answer all of your questions.
