The Explorers inclusive preschool classroom is a product of partnership between the Meredith Autism Program and Department of Psychology at Meredith College.
The classroom is an inclusive, early childhood education classroom that enrolls six children who are typically developing, ages three to five years old. The classroom serves as an inclusive preschool placement for children on the autism spectrum that are enrolled in the Meredith Autism Program. In our school family, we learn to navigate and accept differences on our journey through play.

The last week of preschool was a blast! Water play, board games, slime making, ”keepy uppy” with balloons, and a glow in the dark party. Congratulations graduates this has been a WONDERFUL YEAR!!

April showers bring May flowers! Or wheatgrass in our case 😊 The kids enjoyed planting and caring for our wheatgrass. They especially loved watching it grow!

We have classroom jobs we rotate daily. These jobs foster a sense of community, teach daily living skills as well as promote responsibility and teamwork. A student asked to have a class plant and add “gardener” to our list of jobs. This past week each student planted some wheat grass and we already have some sprouting taking place! Planting aside we talked about rainbows and enjoyed reading books about The Rainbow Fish.

It was a great week to talk about weather! We read about clouds, went outside on a cloud hunt and then created our own cloud art outside! The children really enjoyed a STEM activity exploring the difference between a gust and a breeze using a hair dryer and ping pong balls. We ended today by creating some rain sticks!

This week we have an Ice Cream Shop in centers so of course we had to have a picnic with popsicles! Throw in a colorful egg hunt and it was the perfect preschool spring day!!
