"What's your favorite device?" I'm asked this a LOT.
It's not about choosing favorites, though there are some I prefer in my practice based on:
🔸 evidence behind the device, or similar devices
🔸 inspiratory vs expiratory needs of the patient
🔸 availability in my country
🔸 affordability for my patient, if they're paying
So when you're choosing a device, I want you to make sure you're thinking about all of these variables, too.

Have you ever thought about what flowers and SLPs have in common?
Every spring, as flowers start coming to life, I think about the SLP journey. I love watching my bearded irises take bloom, and especially love that they don't all bloom at once -- just like us.
Buds can represent new grads, but they can also be seasoned SLPs learning something new. Or even transitioning to a new setting (or different career entirely).
And we can repeat this cycle many times throughout our career-- not just early on.
What do you think?

The hardest part of using respiratory muscle training (RMT/RMST) is not necessarily how much we need to know, but understanding which information, risk factors, or interventions to apply when.
Deciding between EMST & IMST, navigating contraindications, and choosing the right device requires us to:
✅ have a strong foundation in RMT,
✅ understand which functional impairments may benefit from RMT, and
✅ know how to actually apply it to our scope of practice.
Breathehab LIVE is designed to develop these skills-- whether you’re an SLP, PT, OT, or RT.
Sign up for the April 25th course to join your rehab colleagues for a transformative day of learning and lots of “aha!” moments!
Register at breathehab.com/courses/raleigh-2026 by April 23rd. Seats are limited.
