I've been quiet for some time and will be for a while longer. I am coping with some health issues that have forced me to take a leave from work. I am not sure how long I will be out, but I will be sure to let you know when I am back.

I've found that teaching elementary-age kids photography is necessarily teaching iphone/ipad photography much of the time, which is why I am so excited to be adding this to my teaching tools. Polaroid prints right from their devices! Past and future unite! (Also, YAY I JUST GOT AN INSTANT LAB!).
My Arts Together camp for 9-12 YOs still has some spots http://www.artstogether.org/summerprograms/summersparkssr.html

I've been quietly focused on home and work lately, but I just had to pop up to tell you I'll be teaching photography a couple weeks at Arts Together this summer. I went to Arts Together as a kid and I am super excited to get to teach there. More news coming as 2016 rolls along.
Exciting things! I’m so happy to let you know that I’ll be teaching photography for a couple weeks at Arts Together this summer. Their former photo instructor, Laura Mann, has moved on to a full-time teaching position...

Here I am in the act. Not pictured: me eating a huge bowl of pho after. Mmmm.

There is still space in my portrait photography camp at Rebus Works next week (for ages 7-9).
So, how many ways ARE there to make a portrait or a self-portrait? So many, including everything from straight-forward head shots, to Warhol-inspired prints, to photographic mobile self-portraits and photo-collages of our campmates. Action portraits! Silhouettes! Self-portraits in which we aren't allowed to photograph our actual face or body, just things important to us. Portraits of ourselves as the person or creature we wish we could be—that's right, DRESS UP. Cynotypes. We'll modify prints with paint and collage. I'll take the campers' portraits. They'll take mine.
Your child will be working with their own simple point-and-shoot but will get some exposure to my professional gear and will get to handle a DSLR camera. There will be some age-appropriate, light computer-based editing (we'll have several laptops for the camp). The focus, however, will be on the physical photographic object and on the creation of the photograph. We will be making as many prints as we can and working with those.
Let's do this!

First step of getting back to work after extended interruption: Checking FB(?). I think I need to reassess. Still, I am so happy to be rid of the winter bugs that have been plaguing me and mine and back to working with you and yours.
