Students to Scholars

Last semester Students 2 Scholars visited Frankie’s fun park in Raleigh for a fun afternoon of games, food!

These activities are meant to build a sense of community within the organization. As well as give members the opportunity to connect with one another in a fun atmosphere.

Happy Thursday! Yesterday at our book event, students had the opportunity to pick any book they wanted at Barnes and Nobles free of cost! Students also completed a reading assessment that they all excelled at!

This student name is Melanie! She is interested in learning Japanese, so she wanted a book to help her with the language!

Last week we had our first session hosted by Changing Perspectives, in a series that will educate our families Social-Emotional Learning. We are thankful for the contribution from Duke Office of Durham and Community Affairs that made this series possible.

Here at S2S, not only do we have amazing students but we also have amazing tutors! Our scholars have an opportunity to meet one on one with a tutor at least once a week.

We had so much fun working on a very special video with our scholars yesterday. We can’t wait to show off the final product!

A special thank you to Harris Teeter for their donation to S2S! Harris Teeter Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and 9th Street in Durham, and Meadowmont Village and South Estes Drive in Chapel Hill have all made donations to the S2S volunteer program.

Earlier this week, Mr. Bill Bell (former Mayor of Durham, serving from 2001 to 2017) was the keynote speaker at our monthly Success and Support Event. He shared his personal story about finding his purpose and discovering his passion for public service work. He also spoke to our students about the importance of finding role models, using time wisely, keeping the right friends, being honest with yourself and others, working in teams, being a purposeful leader, and participating in community service. Students to Scholars is so grateful that Mr. Bell took time out of his schedule to have such a fruitful conversation with our bright and talented students who hopefully feel even more inspired to use their gifts to positively shape the world!

This past Saturday, our S2S Scholars participated in Game Day! We appreciate all the hard work they do throughout the year and thought it was time to have a little fun. Our students participated in a series of Zoom-friendly games and were able to win some awesome prizes.

We would like to say a special thank you to for their generous donation to our Students to Scholars Tutoring Program. We know our volunteers will be so grateful!
