LOL Rocks, LLC is a Christian based, mobile foreign language immersion program teaching both children AND adults. Fun, engaging, proven!!

Some students are flourishing during remote learning. It’s not a majority—many continue to struggle with issues, from connectivity to engagement—but for a handful, the new dynamics allow for more self-paced learning with lower stakes and reduced distractions.

We asked teachers what they think might be going on, and consulted the research too.

Choice: School schedules are now fluid, giving students choice and flexibility. “I think a few of mine are doing really well getting a taste of more independence. They’re taking ownership...because they’re no longer under the micromanagement of the school day,” teacher Lauren Huddleston told us.

Focus: With extracurriculars on hold, there’s more time to focus on academics—a huge benefit for some overextended kids.

Pressure: With some schools relaxing workloads and grading, some kids feel less pressure to achieve, freeing them up to learn.

Social Dynamics: Remote learning may eliminate some negative in-person social dynamics—like peer pressure—which can impact a kid's ability to participate and focus in class. “The online environment may allow for voices to be heard without the added bit of social anxiety,” says psychology teacher Blake Harvard.

Sleep: Kids are getting more of it. That alone can have a significant impact on academic performance.
