Last Friday, Project Pando organized a day for our team to spend the day at Walnut Creek Wetland Center checking in on a Pocket Forest that was planted last year.
What started as mess of invasives is now beginning to restore habitat and stabilize the streambank. One small ecosystem taking root, making an outsized impact.
We even met a few of the neighbors who call it home. 🦎
🚨 WAIT! Before you plant that tree… 🚨
What if I told you… the tiny trees are actually the better deal?
That’s right. Saplings.
Small. Resilient. Ready to grow.
Here’s the pitch:
🌱 Plant them in 2 minutes, not an hour
💸 Cost way less than big nursery trees
⚡ Establish faster and grow like crazy
🌳 Outperform those big expensive trees in a few years
Big trees look impressive on day one.
Saplings win in the long run.
So before you drop serious cash on a giant container tree…
Start small. Grow big! Choose a sapling! 🌱

On March 26th, Basil Camu will be the featured speaker for this ongoing course: How Trees and Forests Shape Our Climate. The series explores the inner workings of forest ecosystems that help cool and regulate the climate, examines the critical roles of living species, unpacks narratives around logging, thinning, biomass energy, and the timber industry, and looks closely at what truly makes a forest healthy and resilient.

What is one of the most important steps after we finish planting? That’s right! Arborist wood chips!
Just be sure that they don’t touch the trunk. What are the benefits of arborist wood chips? Watch to find out.
The early bird gets the worm… a freshly aerated patch of soil so it can live happily ever after.
Our crew heading out to improve soil, plant native trees and install new Piedmont Prairies. All in a days work!

What’s making holes in your tree?
Driving home today, I spotted a flash of red out of the corner of my eye. I pulled over to get a quick snap of this yellow-bellied sapsucker. The tell tale ring of holes around the trunk showed it was not the first time it had visited this tree, but the tree was still healthy and thriving.
A good reminder that just because you see holes or damage, it doesn’t mean anything needs to be treated.
It's planting season! Today, Gus is giving a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to plant a Privacy Thicket or Pocket Forest. Look at the roots on those saplings! 🌳

❄️➡️☀️ The snow is melting. Kids are back at school. And sunnier days are finally ahead.
Winter storms were unsettling, and we’re grateful so many of you avoided major damage. But storms have a way of revealing hidden problems in trees before they become expensive or dangerous.
Ice doesn’t create issues. It exposes weak limbs, poor structure, and hidden risks. That’s where structural pruning comes in. It helps trees grow the way they do in the forest, with one strong trunk, well-spaced branches, and better storm resilience. 🌳💪
To help you get ahead of the next storm and ensure your trees are safe and strong, we’re offering a FREE Winter Tree Inspection ($250 value) for a limited time. It seems like hurricane season is a ways off, but now is a time plan.

We’re always grateful to be able to help our community.
This weekend’s ice storm was unsettling, and we’re grateful so many of you avoided major damage. It’s a good reminder that storms can change quickly, and preparation makes a real difference. In order to ensure more people are prepared for any upcoming storms, we are offering free winter tree care inspections (valued at $250) if you book by the end of this month.
Ice doesn’t create tree problems by itself, it exposes weak limbs, poor structure, and hidden risks that can turn into real damage during the next storm. Structural pruning helps trees grow like they do in the forest, with one strong trunk and well-spaced branches, making them more resilient to storms.
