It’s the 1st day of the NC WRRI Annual Conference at the McKimmon Conference and Training Center at NC State in Raleigh! We're excited for a full day of speakers, presentations, lightning talks, poster demonstrations, and more.

We kicked off the conference with a wonderful opening panel, titled “Collaborating with Communities for Meaningful Research: Building the Practice.” The panel featured plenary speakers Ryan Emanuel, a community-engaged scholar and professor of hydrology at the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University; Colleen Karl, chairperson of the Chowan-Edenton Environmental Group (CEEG); and Samantha Krop, Neuse Riverkeeper with Sound Rivers.

Moderated by NC WRRI executive director Susan White, the panel focused on the ways in which collaborative community-based research can be mutually beneficial to both researchers and the communities they’re partnering with.
