Shame and fear of judgment are huge obstacles to getting support. What if everybody was having the same day as you are? What if relief is available to you if you’re just willing to ask?

Things that are good for our children don’t always feel good. Developmental stressors-stressors that push us right to the edge of comfort are critical to growth.
When our kids are uncomfortable, it’s tempting to rescue them from this kind of stressor. Our brains often want to tell us that the stressor is toxic.
Our children suffer when we interfere with their growth by rescuing them from stressors that are meant to build resilience.

Often times things that happen to us in the GPS our kids need to be able to handle their own struggles. What if you just trusted that they were going to be ok?
What if you trusted that you’re the best person to witness their pain? What if you can be what YOU needed?

Offering empathy and grace to our kids for their decisions for their behaviors and for their ignorance is a choice.

Our kids don’t always value what we value. Sometimes they value fun and we value safety. Often times those two things cannot coexist. We don’t have to explain all the time why we have rules in order to make our kids understand. We can just say no.

I love the idea of a “premortem” (think the opposite of postmortem).
We can pre-decide right now what we’re going to regret if things don’t go the way we hope in 5, 10, 15 or 20 years in our parenting.
We can look to the future and then decide what role we want to take ON PURPOSE to nourish things we value in our homes.
