AI tools are already in accounting workflows. The question in 2026 isn't whether to engage; it's whether you're doing it without creating professional liability exposure.
Submitting client data to a third-party AI platform is a form of disclosure under the AICPA Code. Most practitioners haven't read the data handling terms of the tools they're already using. And agentic AI systems can complete multiple actions before a human reviews the results, which changes the risk profile entirely.
Surgent's new blog covers where AI adoption is clustering in: tax, audit, and advisory work; what professional standards require; and the governance framework firms are using to evaluate tools responsibly.

HSAs are one of the most tax-efficient accounts available โ and one of the most misunderstood. We are launching a new three-course HSA CPE Series taught by Roy Ramthun, M.S., who led the U.S. Treasury's implementation of Health Savings Accounts in 2003.
The series covers HSA eligibility, FSA and HRA interactions, retirement planning strategies, Medicare coordination, and IRMAA interactions โ six CPE credits total, qualifying for NASBA-approved CPE, IRS continuing education credit, and CTEC credit.

A shaky understanding of independence early in an audit career doesn't stay contained. It shows up in every engagement โ until something forces the correction.
Our IRL2 course builds the right foundation for early-career audit, assurance, and attestation professionals: what independence means in practice, how threats arise from financial interests and relationships, and how to evaluate and maintain independence across an engagement.
Presented by Dave Peters.

Most independence violations don't happen because someone ignored the rules. They happen because the rules changed and the practitioner didn't know.
The AICPA has expanded guidance on gifts, fee dependency, client affiliates, nonattest services, and management participation threats since many experienced auditors last did a full review. One gap in the wrong engagement is expensive.
Our IRU2 course covers the complete update. Presented by Dave Peters.

The OBBBA raised the estate tax exemption to $15,000,000. Most estates won't owe tax โ but practitioners still need to know when Form 706 is required and how to file it correctly.
Surgent CPE's ETR2 webinar tomorrow covers the full process: gross estate organization, portability elections, marital deduction rules, GST exposures, and the compliance risks that draw IRS attention.

The OBBBA raised the estate tax exemption to $15,000,000 in 2026. Most estates won't owe federal estate tax.
That doesn't mean there's nothing to file. The portability election still requires a timely Form 706. Valuation disputes are still the number one source of IRS examination adjustments on estate returns.
Surgent's new blog covers when Form 706 is required, how the return works, and where practitioners run into problems.

The expectations boards hold for CFOs today are categorically different from what they were ten years ago. Technical accuracy is assumed. What separates CFO candidates from everyone else is strategic judgment, stakeholder influence, and technology literacy.
Surgent's new blog breaks down how the role has changed, what competencies boards actually evaluate, and what a realistic path from controller to CFO looks like.
Worth a read if you're building toward the executive seat.
