Mark your calendars for this event which has been organized largely by Rabun Gap students and our interfaith partners in Atlanta!

This year's conference will be March 23rd from 3:00-5:00p.m.

High school students of Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, and other faith backgrounds from around Atlanta have come together to organize this year's event. It will feature small group discussions between attendees and 15 faith leaders from various religions and will also feature food, music, art, and dance from an array of traditions. Lets celebrate and learn about each other!

Rabun Gap students convened with jewish high school students at the Weber School to make blankets which will be distributed to homeless shelters.

A group of Rabun Gap students teamed up with UpLift Muslim Youth, a multi-Masjid youth group in Atlanta, to serve out greater community. Together we removed an invasive species called privet from Kittredge Park in Atlanta. That evening, the Rabun Gap group also visited MAFTY, the Jewish youth group of The Temple, for dinner, discussions, and activites.

A group of Rabun Gap students had the privilege to tour multiple cultural facets of the Eastern Orthodox world including Greek, Russian, Egyptian (Coptic), and Indian Orthodox churches in the metro Atlanta area.

Interfaith Networking Weekend in Atlanta
On the last day of our Interfaith weekend, we attended the “Taste of Faith Temple Sinai”, an AILF (Interfaith) sponsored event at Temple Sinai, a synagogue in Atlanta, where different groups present their traditional food and people get to know the world’s faiths. It was especially interesting to taste food from a wide range of religions like Islam, Sikhism and Judaism and to talk to the people behind the stands. I think I had the best dinner in my life so far; and that not only because of the food. Surely, it was a lot of fun trying strange-looking snacks and tasting a completely different flavor; and then, you want to know where this thing comes from and what it is made of and without knowing it, you engage in a conversation with a Moorish American or a Hindu and get a grasp on what their belief is and are so fascinated by their life that time just flies by and you have not yet tried this tempting foreign fruit at the Bahai stand.

December Meeting
A few weeks ago the Rabun Gap interfaith group Skyped with a second member of the Sikh community Dr.bikram Lamba. We were given another perspective on this faith, especially concerning the ways the history of the religion relates to it's current traditions. Afterwards we ate food brought by members of the club, and discussed our views on what we had learned. Keep an eye out for upcoming events and remember everyone is welcome.

A visit to the Weber school highlighted our Sunday morning on December 7th, we were all very excited to meet our new partner school for the first time. Weber is a Jewish school in Atlanta. The exterior of the Weber resembled any private preparatory schools: nice buildings, eye-catching school logos and inspiring moto's... But as we conversed with some students who happened to have remained in school for a project, their accounts of the academic and cultural elements in the life of a second-generation Jewish-American teenager, intrigued us in the sense that it was so unique yet so fascinatingly blends with the familiar everyday routine of an American life. It did not take long for us all to become friends, laughing and complaining about school like all highschoolers. They also showed us a Youtube channel with beautifully created music videos about Judaism, which inspired David with ideas for the chapel band in our school. And the projects displayed throughout the school were just incredible. After a 3 hour visit we took our friend Adina from the Weber school home and decorated Andrew’s Christmas tree. It was the first time doing so for David, Adina and I, for she came from a Jewish family, and David and I are from Asian cultures in which we don’t typically decorate our own trees. I must say it was the most joyous moment in my American experience along with all the cookies and warm milk.

Rabun Gap Interfaith had its first group Skype session today! We conversed with Abby Seidei from Weber School, Robert Winborne from Lovett School, and Dr. Raj Patil to learn about Jainism. We discussed the overall ideas and concepts of the religion, and were enlightened about what we discovered.
