Advocacy group in Queens, NY working to promote better enforcement of traffic laws, criminalization of reckless driving, and safer street designs.

Make Queens Safer formed out of a strong feeling of empathy for the families coping with the loss or injury of loved ones due to reckless driving, unsafe street design, and lack of enforcement of traffic laws. We are neighbors who seek to

- shift the current ambivalence about pedestrian fatalities and injuries into a community-based movement that sees these as intolerable and 100% preventable;

Ok, 108 Precinct is down Queens side writing summons now. Where is the truck to confiscate all the illegal bikes and micromobility?

Those of us in the cycling community are reeling and terribly saddened by the crash between an illegal stand up scooter and cyclist on the Queensborough bridge yesterday morning.

We have decades of riding, and advocating for safe streets, and this tragedy represents our evolving streetscape, and the need to stay ahead of the dangers, by redesigning dangerous roads and fighting for laws that will protect us.

In this case, the stand up scooter was not street legal. Can you believe any one of us can order this death trap online, have it delivered home, and hit the streets putting innocent people in danger.

Riding illegal vehicles on the bridge path is a critical concern that advocates have made government aware of for decades too. This must be the end of the reckless disregard for others on our bike paths.

Some of you know my son was in a very similar crash with an ebike on that bridge path two weeks ago.

must stop internet sales of illegal emobility devices to home addresses here. And we must enforce the speed and weight limits on ebikes and scooters right away. Personally, I know plenty of dear people who have lost loved ones to traffic violence. So, this post by my son, who commutes QBB every day, is especially critical for New Yorkers to understand.

2 men killed in scooter-bike collision on Queensboro Bridge, NYPD says 05/28/2026

This is horrifying, revolting and terribly sad. Both killed by a collision that was certainly preventable. However, the speeds and the lane conflict that originally brought the separated lanes to the Queens Borough Bridge, are not resolved. EScooters, modified class 2 or higher ebikes, and motor bikes have no place in this narrow bike lane. Our condolences to the loved ones who expected these people to return home safely. Our pleas continue to NYPD 108th Precinct and NYC DOT to restrict dangerous driving whenever and wherever it happens.

Look at this wonderful event coming up, tucked inside another wonderful event. The best part- it's showcasing Elmhurst Queens! My heart. Full link to everything is in the comments.

Come out for the first annual "Blessing of the Wheels and Heels" I have a feeling this is going to be a very fun and spirited event for all of us old timers who have biked for decades, as well as the newbies who will ride on much different roads, and different wheels.
'Look for more info on Elmhurst Day too. It's jam packed with guided tours and food choices.
