What’s happening at Woodland Elementary this summer?
When students head out for break on June 16, construction will begin on a rooftop solar project, making Woodland the first school in the Puyallup School District with a large-scale solar installation. Funded by a $1.7 million state grant, the 221.4‑kilowatt system is expected to supply about 31.5 percent of the school’s annual electricity consumption while reducing costs and environmental impact.
Before construction begins, students met with McKinstry experts to learn how solar energy works and ask thoughtful questions. The project will provide clean energy and create a hands-on learning opportunity connected to science and engineering.

Game, set, refresh! Puyallup High School’s tennis courts are getting a much-needed resurfacing thanks to the voter-approved 2024 Capital Levy. The existing courts had become sun-faded, cracked, and worn over time, limiting playability for students and community users. Work began May 26 with new purple courts, light green surrounding surfaces, and fresh white lines designed to improve traction, visibility, and overall playing conditions while helping extend the life of the facility.
Thank you to Puyallup voters for supporting student spaces through capital levy funding, which is used for facility improvements and repairs.

Small projects can have a big impact. At Emerald Ridge High School, the path students used most between the main building and portables had worn into grass and often meant muddy shoes and extra cleanup during wet weather. Thanks to the 2024 Capital Levy and Looker Asphalt, that route is now a paved pathway, creating a cleaner, safer, and more accessible connection for students and staff.
Thank you, voters, for investing in improvements that support everyday learning across our schools.

Senior Spotlight! Rogers High School senior Spencer Hainey is finishing his final year with more than a diploma. Through a year-long internship with the Puyallup School District’s Facilities Planning team, Spencer gained hands-on experience measuring school spaces, creating digital maps, and supporting projects that help keep schools running smoothly.
An avid robotics enthusiast, he says the internship gave him a new understanding of how schools operate behind the scenes and helped prepare him for the future. His advice to others: do not wait to apply.
Congratulations, Spencer, and thank you for helping build strong schools and a strong future!
