Puyallup School District's Capital Projects Department (CPD) is responsible for overseeing and designing all new school construction, as well as school modernization and building remodeling projects. In addition, CPD also handles small capital projects, infrastructure projects, and planning for future needs. Their focus is on ensuring that all projects are completed to the highest standards and that they meet the community's needs. CPD strives to be good stewards of taxpayer investments and works closely with stakeholders to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget. The Facilities Planning Department collaborates closely with the Capital Projects Department to identify the current and future requirements of the district. By working together, they ensure that all projects are tailored to meet the community's needs and are completed to the highest standards. Their joint efforts ensure that all schools are adequately equipped to provide students with the best possible learning environment.

The Puyallup School District has petitioned the City of Puyallup to permanently vacate portions of public right-of-way adjacent to Puyallup High School that are currently closed to regular vehicle traffic.

A street vacation is a legal process through which a city relinquishes its public right-of-way interest in a street or portion of a street. The September 15 public hearing will provide an opportunity for the City Council to receive information and public testimony before considering whether the requested vacation should be approved, denied, or approved with conditions.

No final decision has been made regarding the proposed street vacation. Community members can learn more about the proposal and the public hearing process by visiting the City of Puyallup's website:

Smiles, laughter and plenty of excitement filled the playground as Zeiger Elementary students celebrated the ribbon cutting of their new playground and site improvements funded by the 2024 voter-approved Capital Levy. Fourth-grade students helped mark the occasion with “Thank You Voter" signs. These improvements will help keep the playground drier and more usable year-round.

The Puyallup School District is modernizing its transportation program with new fueling infrastructure and the addition of propane-powered school buses. The district has begun receiving 23 new propane buses that will replace aging vehicles as they reach the end of their service life. Along with fuel system upgrades at the Downtown Transportation and South Hill campuses, the transition supports lower operating costs, reduced emissions and continued reliable transportation for students.

On September 15, representatives from the district will present information on the 7th Street NW closure pilot near Puyallup High School to the Puyallup City Council. The pilot aims to reduce safety risks for hundreds of students who cross the street daily between the main campus and portable classrooms by limiting vehicle traffic and vehicle and pedestrian conflicts. The closure is part of a multi-year effort that includes traffic studies, community input, and coordination with the city. The meeting will be held in person at City Hall Council Chambers, 333 S. Meridian (5th Floor), streamed on the City of Puyallup YouTube.

ICYMI: BUDGET MATTERS 💡Where does our Capital Budget come from? Our Capital Budget is supported by multiple sources, including:

🗸 Voter-approved capital levies and bonds
🗸 State matching funds
🗸 Interest earned from bond sales
🗸 Impact fees from new residential construction

These funding sources allow us to build, maintain, and improve school facilities that support student learning.

A common misconception is that the state fully funds public schools. In reality, Washington’s school funding system is a partnership between the state and local communities. Local support plays an important role in maintaining schools and meeting facility needs.

We'll see you tomorrow, September 2, for the first day of school!

The paint is dry, the playground equipment is installed, and our technology systems are ready to go. Throughout the summer, teams across the district worked hard to complete improvements that support student learning and keep our schools safe, welcoming, and ready for a great year ahead.
