WSU HEP

WSU HEP HEP is designed to assist migrant and seasonal farm workers earn their GED certificate.

The High School Equivalency Program (HEP) helps migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their family members earn a GED (General Education Diploma. Once participants have their GED, HEP will help them find better jobs, vocational training, military service, or admittance into colleges, universities, or other post-secondary education.

Two of our stellar student employees received the Gray award for their research presentations at the annual WSU Showcase for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (SURCA).

Lesly Valdovinos presented her research titled: “How Students with Migrant Backgrounds Perceive Agriculture and the Influence It Has on Their Career Paths” 🍎🍒

Pedro Mendoza-Zamora presented his research titled: “Habitat Characteristics Predicting Occupancy in Black-Tailed and White-Tailed Jackrabbits in Eastern Washington” 🐇🌱

Empowering migrant and seasonal farmworkers to achieve their dreams, Washington State University’s High School Equivalency Program (HEP) helps them earn GEDs, unlocking new career and education opportunities. Last spring, HEP was featured in a WSU article, honoring Citlali and Claudia Pulido, a remarkable mother-daughter duo and amazing students. Learn more about their inspiring journey.

“WSU’s program is one of just a few residential HEP programs in the country where its participants live in a residence hall and eat in the dining centers. Heim said this allows his staff to have more interaction with students, who then become familiar with what it is like to be a college student.

Pulido is struck with the diversity of the WSU community and is considering applying to WSU to study psychology after she graduates from HEP.”
