Hi all, as you know, we have been working with statewide groups on issues related to public education. Our state representatives need to hear a counterpoint to the Koch-brother's funded "parents rights" movement. We're planning a New River Valley based listening session with the Center for Educational Improvement to gather input so that we can highlight concerns of real parents and students who want strong public schools. We'd love for any parents or educators who could participate in the Thursday December 15th session (7:30 pm on Zoom) to register for it, and if you have middle or high school aged kids who would like to be involved, that would be awesome too. Although we'd love to see some new faces and hear diverse input, we're also wary of getting deluged with trolls, so haven't wanted to advertise on public social media outlets. But please feel free to spread the word to folks you know who might be interested, especially if they are a teacher, student, parent who can represent voices of underserved populations. If your kids are college students who are recent alums of NRV public schools we'd love to have their input too! Happy first day of school to Pulaski County Public Schools students, teachers, staff, and administrators! Our Community Conversations group has collected and distributed over 1000 books this summer, including stocking up most of the County's little free libraries (some pictured here).

Hey folks. Help us get books into kids hands. Donate new and gently used books to boxes in the libraries.
We need everything from preschool to chapter books.
Clean out your book cases, buy from yard sales, donate leftovers from your yard sale, buy from second hand stores. You can drop books off at the public libraries in Dublin or Pulaski. Or if you need someone to pick them up, email [email protected].

What a great day for the Community Conversations and initiatives! We recorded twelve videos of community members reading to children (soon to be available on our YouTube channel!) and distributed free books to children at the Claytor Lake Festival.

If the Pulaski County Board of Supervisors end up including funding in their FY2023 budget for kindergarten paraeducators, the summer will be off to a perfect start! It's not too late to contact your Board of Supervisors representative if you want to see this Pulaski County Public Schools budget priority funded!

We are looking for people to read children's stories for Youtube videos that we will share with children in Pulaski County and beyond.

Thanks to the Pulaski County Library System, Terrie Sternberg , Janet and Tim Jonas, Cheri Warburton, the Friends of Peak Creek and everyone else who donated books to distribute at the Music and Merchants Festival. And thanks to the Calfee Community & Cultural Center for handing them out. Look for Calfee Community & Cultural Center at future community events where they will be distributing more books. Pulaski County!
