Aloha! 🌺 As the world around us continues to change, we wanted to provide everyone an update on the gardens operations for the 2020 Summer/Fall season.

As safety to our guests and employees is top priority, we intended to take our time reopening. It is our intention to reopen in a two phase approach starting July 3rd, 2020.

Phase l - The first phase is currently underway with our island keiki’s education camp.

Phase ll - We will resume our botanical and chocolate tour July 3rd. These will be private tours only with a minimum of 4 and max of 10.

The second session of the Princeville Botanical Gardens Keiki Program (ages 10 - 15) will start Monday, June 15th and run until July 2nd. Our curriculum will use the garden’s facilities to incorporate a series of project based activities that cover STREAM (Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Arts, and Math) topics. We have created a GoFundMe to give out scholarships for families in need of tuition assistance for our kids’ education program at the Princeville Botanical Gardens. Our program provides opportunities for local keiki to explore the botanical gardens and learn about Kauai's unique ecosystem, environmental sciences, culture, and history through a project-based curriculum.

We hope to ease the stress of the recent lockdown, as we continue to follow CDC and governmental guidelines and experience the garden’s sacred space.

Dear Garden Community,

It’s hard to put into words everything that is happening during these uncertain times and want to do our part to protect our community and respect Governor Ige's request to be proactive by implementing his initiative on COVID -19. "15 Days to Slow the Spread." Now thru April 2nd.

We have made a tough decision knowing the best way to keep our visitors and staff safe is to close the garden for the recommended two weeks.

In the Aloha Spirit, we urge our community to continue to lead by action - Acting with compassion and care as we consider how we move about the world and take all necessary precautions to protect ourselves and each other.

Mahalo nui loa for your patience, support, and trust in us. We look forward to reopening as soon as possible to share these beautiful gardens with you.

An ornamental banana flower with little, undeveloped, inedible fruits. Edible Musa species were vitally important to the Hawaiians and Polynesians, but the more than 70 different species of banana (or “mai’a” in Hawaiian) have far more uses than most people realize — roofing material, plates, fiber, thatching, thread, cloth, food from parts other than the fruit, medicinal applications, the list goes on and on.

Well, we’re still braving the intense winter here in Kauai of about 78 degrees, making it possible for citrus season to be in full swing. Currently, we have probably too many oranges, tangerines, tangelos, grapefruit, and lemon than we know what to do with fruiting on the garden! Come on a tour this week to try them yourselves! 🍊

The Anthurium Plants colorful heart-shape is not a flower. Though it looks like a waxy bloom, it is actually a spathe, or shield-like leaf. Its function is to protect the spadix, which contains several tiny flowers when in bloom. The spathe can come in many colors, such as pink, orange and white.
