Join us at the Princeton Institute for Hasidic Thought’s 2026 Fall Symposium on November 1 at Princeton University!

This year’s symposium, “Body, Soul, and Self: Jewish and Hasidic Perspectives from Antiquity to Modernity,” explores how Jewish thinkers across history have understood the relationship between body and soul, and what these ideas can teach us about selfhood, spiritual purpose, and intellectual inquiry today. Featured speakers include: Leora Batnitzky (Princeton University), Clemence Boulouque (Columbia University), Naphtali Meshel (Hebrew University), Danielle Knafo (Clinical Psychologist), and Dhananjay Jagannathan (Hunter College).

Last week, PIHT held its second annual Meturgeman Translation Fellowship in Princeton! Nine outstanding fellows from across the country spent five days immersed in Yiddish Hasidic texts, working alongside historian Dr. Eli Rubin to produce English translations of texts that have never been accessible to general readers.

And this is just the beginning—throughout the summer, fellows will continue translating in pairs, producing meticulous and accessible translations that open up the Hasidic tradition to new readers.

On November 9th, 2025, the Princeton Institute for Hasidic Thought welcomed over 130 attendees for a full day of learning and conversation at Princeton University's beautiful Chancellor Green Hall!

​Through four dynamic sessions, we fostered an open conversation around the enduring significance of Hasidic texts, methods, and ideas. Participants from a wide range of backgrounds came together for this unprecedented gathering at the crossroads of spiritual tradition and the modern academy. Learn about PIHT's Meturgeman Translation Fellowship!

This five-week summer program trains university students to produce original English translations of Yiddish and Hebrew Hasidic texts of the Rebbe RaSHaB (the fifth Lubavitcher Rebbe).

The fellowship begins with a four-day in-person intensive retreat led by Eli Rubin, a leading scholar of Chabad intellectual and social history. From there, fellows work in pairs to translate texts not yet available in English—bringing to life the depth and richness of Hasidic thought through multiple interpretive lenses.

Each semester, PIHT hosts a bi-weekly seminar on a select topic in Hasidic thought, open to both university affiliates and community members. Designed to be accessible regardless of one's background, these sessions combine traditional text study with a seminar-style discussion, introducing participants to both the form and content of Hasidic learning.

Grounded in the belief that Hasidic texts offer intellectually sophisticated and spiritually enriching insights, the seminar invites a diverse group of students and participants to encounter these works on their own terms—while exploring how they might speak across disciplines and traditions today.
