The "College for All Act" would make all 4-year public colleges and universities tuition free. This legislation is in the interest of hundreds of millions of people when you consider grandparents and parents who want their (grand)children to graduate with as little debt as possible, college students who want the same, and high school students who will soon enter college.
The only groups that do not want this legislation to pass are people who are profiting from student loan debt, the same groups of people who pay for the political campaigns of our congressional representatives. This is the reason that a legislation that would greatly benefit our society, that is in the interest of most citizens, only has a 1% chance of being enacted by Congress according to GovTrack.us.
We organize with the knowledge that in a democracy, the power is with the people. Our efforts to pass the "College for All Act" will be a social and political experiment which tests the claim "The United States is a democracy."

Dear Senator Bernie Sanders,
I have the pleasure of working with two groups of students at Montclair State University and Union County College where I teach, who are organizing to raise awareness for the "College for All Act." We understand ourselves to be engaged in a social and political experiment that will test the claim, "The United States is a democracy." Loosely defined, a democracy is a government where the elected officials make laws that represent the interest of the people. Yet, the opaqueness and confusion of many of the laws that are passed and even how they are passed, challenge that claim.
On our campuses and at academic institutions throughout the United States, students, faculty, and administrators are raising awareness for the legislation you introduced into Congress. Our goal is to show that there is popular support. With popular support we should be able to get this legislation passed in Congress, even though there are powerful interest groups who would prevent this from happening. You've done the people of the United States a great service by introducing this legislation into Congress but this cannot become law without our help. Help us raise awareness as we express and exercise democracy. On social media we are and .
Sincerely,
Steve Santos and the student organizers at Montclair State University and Union County College
