After long and thoughtful consideration, I have decided to retire from the Board of Education effective June 30, 2026 and will not be seeking reelection. I am incredibly thankful to have worked alongside such wonderful educators and inspiring students, and I am truly grateful for the amazing support of our community throughout my ten years of service.

It has truly been an honor to serve alongside my fellow board members, and I am so thankful for their support, collaboration, and shared commitment to doing what’s best for our students. I will remain a lifelong, passionate supporter of public education and Mercer County Schools.

I am excited for the next chapter and for more time with my family. Thank you all for your trust, kindness, and encouragement—it has meant more than I can say. ♥️

I had a great time moderating the Spelling Bee at Melrose Elementary this morning! This super smart group of 3rd, 4th & 5th graders did an awesome job with some really difficult words.

Congratulations to winner Brody Blankenship & runner-up Madelyn Mould! Madelyn is just a 3rd grader and not eligible to compete in the County Spelling Bee, so 3rd place winner Nicholas Hager will join Brody in representing Melrose.🏅

Today was a very special day at Bluefield High School! English Teacher Extraordinaire Shawn Williams & her senior English students hosted well known author Jeannette Walls for “Inside the Glass Castle.”

The packed auditorium of students & community members hung onto her every word as Jeannette shared tales from her childhood in Welch, WV and life lessons she has learned along the way from a poverty filled youth to the bestseller list. After her talk, Ms. Walls generously answered questions from a panel of BHS students & signed books for those in attendance.

As a huge fan of Ms. Walls’ books, it was a thrill to get to chat with her before the program began. Big thanks to Ms. Williams & the rest of our BHS crew for organizing this outstanding event!

Tonight was an exciting evening at the Chuck Mathena Center when all of Princeton’s elementary schools came together to announce the title of their One Book, One Town reading selection - Almost Super!

Students & staff from Silver Springs Early Learning Center, Princeton Primary, Mercer & Straley schools filled the parking lot to hear the announcement and enjoy a movie screening & refreshments. It was amazing to see our town come together to support their children & this wonderful family reading program. Thanks to PPS Principal Kelli Stanley for inviting me! 📚
