Update to ISEF category (and, subsequently, regional category) from ISEF folks:

Category Update: Systems Software Renamed to Software Design
• Following conversations with the ISEF Judging Advisory Committee and industry stakeholders, the Systems Software category has been renamed Software Design.
• The change only pertains to the category name and is meant to better represent the projects competing within this category.
• The category description, subcategories, and subcategory descriptions have not been changed.
• This change at ISEF does not require any change at the regional fair.

Our Regional Fair is on March 6th, 2026, with registration deadline in STEM Wizard on February 20th

1. SAVE THE DATE: Friday, March 6th 2026!! Awards Ceremony will be on campus that evening! Let me know if you have any questions!

2. If you need to have a less formal judging/science fair process due to limited teacher planning time or student involvement, OR if you are part of a homeschool organization, please reach out to me and I will walk you through that process.

3. We require safety forms to be reviewed, filled out and SIGNED before experimentation begins (usually forms 1, 1A, 7 1B--but there may be others. Please review safety forms here: https://www.societyforscience.org/isef/forms/

4. Once advancing projects are selected from your school fair, your science teacher will register themselves and then the advancing student(s) in STEM Wizard. https://ekysef.stemwizard.com/

5. Follow and check our page regularly for announcements that happen often (especially as we get closer to the regional fair!).

There has been an unexpected but *minor* change to the fair schedule on Saturday: the public viewing of projects has been canceled due to a scheduling conflict with another event on campus.

Please plan for students to take their project boards home after their interviews on Friday, March 21st!

Then, just show up for the the Awards Ceremony on Saturday, March 22nd at the Mountain Arts Center at 1:00 p.m. in Prestonsburg, KY! (address: 50 Hal Rogers Dr. Prestonsburg, KY 41653).

*Note: project boards left on Friday may be discarded. So sorry for the inconvenience.
