The best leaders I know don’t eliminate stress.
They regulate it.

Stress is part of professional life.

Deadlines.
Decisions.
Difficult conversations.

But what separates great leaders from overwhelmed ones isn’t the absence of stress — it’s the ability to reset quickly and stay grounded under pressure.

In the work I do with professionals and leaders, one thing becomes very clear:

When people operate in constant urgency, they make reactive decisions.

When people operate in calm focus, they make better ones.

That shift doesn’t require a vacation.

Sometimes it’s as simple as:

• stepping away for a minute
• slowing your breathing
• resetting your nervous system

Leadership isn’t just about managing others.

It’s about learning to manage your own state first.

Because how you show up internally
shapes how you lead externally.

Reflection:

When stress rises during your workday, what helps you reset the fastest?

One of the fastest ways to reset stress is surprisingly simple.

Change your breathing.

When stress rises:

• breathing becomes shallow
• heart rate increases
• thinking narrows

But when you slow your breathing, your brain receives a signal:

You are safe.

Try this during your next stressful moment:

Inhale for 4 seconds
Exhale for 6 seconds

Do it for 60 seconds.

You may be surprised how quickly your body resets.

Reflection:

When during your workday do you feel stress building most?

Stress doesn’t always look dramatic.

For many professionals, it looks like:

• constant urgency
• tight shoulders
• shallow breathing
• decision fatigue

And over time, that becomes your default work state.

But the best leaders I work with know something important:

They don’t just manage time.
They manage their nervous system.

Tomorrow I’ll share one of the fastest ways to reset stress during the workday.

Reflection question:

Where do you notice stress most during your workday?

During a typical workday, how often do you intentionally move your body?

1️⃣ A few times a day
2️⃣ Only when meetings end
3️⃣ Mostly sitting all day

Many of us don’t realize how long we sit until we actually stop and think about it.

But movement plays a huge role in supporting:

• energy
• focus
• mood
• productivity

That’s why Movement That Fits the Workday is the third practice in The Workday Thrive Method™.

Because small movement habits can make a big difference in how we feel throughout the day.

One simple strategy I often recommend to professionals is something called the 90-Minute Reset.

Every 90 minutes, take a brief movement break.

Not a workout.

Just 2–3 minutes of movement.

Examples:

• stand and stretch
• walk down the hall
• take a quick lap around the office
• step outside for fresh air

These small movement breaks can help restore:

• circulation
• energy
• mental clarity

And they often make it easier to return to work with better focus.

This is exactly the kind of practice we explore in The Workday Thrive Method™.

Because thriving at work isn’t about doing more.

It’s about working with your body instead of against it.

Reflection question:

What’s one way you could add a little more movement into your workday?

Many professionals spend 8–10 hours a day sitting.

Meetings.
Emails.
Zoom calls.
Desk work.

And by the end of the day, it’s easy to feel:

• mentally drained
• physically stiff
• lower energy

But what many people don’t realize is that movement doesn’t just help the body.

It helps the brain.

Even short periods of movement throughout the day can improve:

• circulation
• focus
• mood
• cognitive performance

This is why the third practice in The Workday Thrive Method™ is called:

Movement That Fits the Workday.

Not hour-long workouts.

Just small, intentional movement built into the workday.

Because when the body moves, the mind often follows.

Reflection question:

How many hours a day do you think you spend sitting during the workday?

I recently had the opportunity to facilitate a couple of workshops at Bradshaw Mountain High School on self-motivation and teamwork.

We wrapped up the session with the Marshmallow Challenge, where teams worked together to build the tallest freestanding structure using simple materials. What looked like a fun activity quickly turned into a powerful lesson.

The teams that succeeded were the ones who took action, adapted quickly, and stayed motivated even when their structures collapsed.

It’s a great reminder that in school, careers, and leadership, success rarely comes from the perfect plan; it comes from initiative, collaboration, and the motivation to keep trying.

Always inspiring to see the next generation learning these skills early.

Before the first meeting.
Before the first email.
Before the first conversation.

How do you arrive at work?

Calm…or already activated?

Most professionals start their day like this:

Traffic → email → meeting → reaction.

No pause.
No reset.
Just momentum.

And that momentum is usually stress.

But here’s the leadership insight many people overlook:

Your nervous system often determines the tone of your leadership.

When we enter the day already activated, it becomes harder to:

• listen fully
• respond thoughtfully
• lead with patience
• think strategically

That’s why the first practice in The Workday Thrive Method™ focuses on something simple but powerful:

The Arrival Reset.

Just a short pause to ground, breathe, and choose how you want to show up.

Because how you arrive often determines how you lead.

Quick reflection question:
On a scale of 1–10, how activated do you usually feel when you start your workday?

1 = calm and grounded
10 = already stressed before the day begins

Most professionals don’t need a longer morning routine.

They need a better arrival.

The first two minutes of your workday set the tone for everything that follows.

Yet most people start their day like this:

Car → phone
Email → meeting
Meeting → reaction

No pause.
No reset.
Just momentum.

And that momentum is usually stress.

Leadership presence isn’t something you turn on during a meeting.

It’s something you regulate before the meeting begins.

That’s why one of the first practices in The Workday Thrive Method™ is something I call:

The Arrival Reset.

It takes less than two minutes.

Try this tomorrow before opening your laptop:

Step 1 – Ground
Sit for a moment with both feet on the floor.

Step 2 – Breathe
Inhale for 4 seconds
Hold for 4 seconds
Exhale for 6 seconds
Repeat four times.

Step 3 – Choose
Ask yourself one question:

How do I want to show up today?

Calm.
Focused.
Present.

Leadership doesn’t start with the first conversation.

It starts with the state you bring into it.

Reflection question:

What’s the very first thing you usually do when you start your workday?

03/05/2026

How you enter the day determines how you lead the day.

Not your title.
Not your to-do list.
Not your leadership training.

Your state.

Most professionals walk into their first meeting already activated — rushing from traffic, email, or the next deadline.

And when that happens, leadership presence drops before the day even begins.

Because leadership is physiological before it’s psychological.

When your nervous system is reactive:
• patience shortens
• listening narrows
• decision-making tightens

High-performing leaders don’t just manage their time.

They manage their state.

This is one of the ideas behind The Workday Thrive Method™ — integrating sustainable energy, focus, and leadership directly into the workday.

Because how you enter often determines how you lead.

I’m curious…what do the first five minutes of your workday usually look like?

Most professionals think wellness happens after work.

I disagree.

We talk a lot about self-care at home.

But what about the 8–10 hours we spend at work?

What if wellness wasn’t something you “fit in” around your job…but something integrated directly into your workday?

Over the last several months, I’ve been building something I’m incredibly excited about:

🌿 The Workday Thrive Method™
Six Practices for Sustainable Energy, Focus & Leadership.

This is not:
• A morning routine
• A productivity hack
• A wellness trend

It’s a performance operating system.

Because sustainable leadership is physiological before it’s motivational.

Over the next six weeks, I’ll be walking through:

1️⃣ The Arrival Reset
2️⃣ Fueling for Focus
3️⃣ Movement That Fits the Workday
4️⃣ Staying Regulated Under Pressure
5️⃣ Protecting Mental Bandwidth
6️⃣ The Exit Ritual

If you’re a high performer who wants to thrive at work - not just survive it - stay with me.

Let’s build sustainability inside the workday.

Quick question:
What drains you most during your workday right now?
