I think the most important aspect of my work is teaching patience and non-judgement, and how to practice while exercising these. Here's a great quote a friend shared with me, by the Dali Lama, "It is said that effort should be like a river, sustained and continuous. If you have the gift of perfect effort or diligence, free of any sense of discouragement or inadequacy, then everything you do will succeed. Effort is said to be the precondition for all positive actions. It protects you against discouragement and depression in the event of difficulties." We can certainly apply that to the study of an instrument and singing, whether professionally or recreationally.
