CHALLENGE B SPOTLIGHT

Designed for students 13-14 yrs old (8th grade), the Challenge B program focuses on the theme "Ownership Leads to Discipline”.

🧮 Logic: Students discover how math helps make sense of the world by exploring numbers, shapes, relationships, operations, equality, and inequality—building strong pre-algebra foundations through hands-on thinking and problem solving.

⭐️ Research: Students journey through astronomy and science history, exploring brilliant scientists, big ideas about origins, and the building blocks of chemistry—including the periodic table and atomic models—all driven by curiosity and questions they want to answer.

❓Reasoning: Students sharpen their thinking skills by learning how to build strong arguments. They start with informal logic and everyday reasoning, then move into formal logic with truth tables and structured proofs that train the mind to think clearly and precisely.

🌎 Debate: Students step into history and the courtroom! They explore inspiring American figures in the first semester, then bring their skills to life in a mock trial—taking on roles as attorneys and witnesses to argue a real case with confidence and clarity at the Jefferson County Courthouse.

✏️ Grammar (Language): Students continue their Latin journey, building vocabulary and mastering declensions and conjugations. Along the way, they develop powerful study habits and mental discipline that strengthen all areas of learning.

📕 Exposition: Students become writers and storytellers as they grow in persuasive writing, literature analysis, and creative expression. From Newbery stories to original short stories, they practice the art of writing with imagination, structure, and voice.

CHALLENGE A SPOTLIGHT

Designed for students 12-13 yrs old (7th grade), the Challenge A program focuses on the theme "Attention Leads to Ownership," marking a transition from parent-led to student-directed learning.

🧮 Logic (Math): Students build a strong foundation using the Math Map Complex (or parents chosen curriculum), engaging weekly in problem-solving discussions to deepen understanding of numbers, operations, and mathematical reasoning.

🔬Science: First semester focuses on classical natural science through independent research, presentations, and modeling. Students then apply the scientific method in a science fair, followed by studying and memorizing human anatomy systems in the second semester.

❓Reasoning: Students strengthen critical thinking by exploring analogies, truth in communication, and logical fallacies through readings, exercises, and guided discussions.

🌎 Geography: Emphasis on memorizing world maps, countries, capitals, and key terms, with the goal of drawing the world from memory and building a strong mental framework.

✏️ Latin: Students develop language skills through memorization, translation, and practice with Latin grammar and vocabulary.

📕 Exposition: Through literature-based assignments, students learn persuasive writing, forming arguments, and considering multiple perspectives, with increasing complexity over time. Students complete a total of 10 novels and essays.

The Challenge A program aims to cultivate curiosity, critical thinking, strong communication skills, and a foundation for advanced academic study within a structured, classical model.

Last night our Classical Conversations community stepped back in time! ⚔️📜

Our 4th–6th grade students presented their Faces of History capstone projects, bringing history to life as famous figures from the past. Families enjoyed a Medieval-themed evening complete with a Renaissance banquet and a wonderful wax museum.

It was incredible to see the hard work, creativity, and confidence these students developed—researching their historical figure, writing their speeches, and presenting them to the community. Moments like this are one of the many things that make Classical Conversations so special. ❤️

So proud of these students and all the effort they put into this project!

One of the questions we hear most from parents of middle and high school students is:
“What about college credit?”

One of the things families love about Classical Conversations is that students don’t have to wait until graduation to begin earning it.

Through CC Plus, students in the upper Challenge levels can participate in dual/concurrent enrollment, earning real college credit while still homeschooling. These courses are offered through an accredited Christian university and align closely with the work students are already doing in the Challenge program.

That means students can:
📚 Earn college credits during high school
🎓 Get a head start on their college degree
💰 Potentially save thousands in tuition
🏡 Stay rooted in their classical Christian homeschool community

Instead of leaving the homeschool environment for college classes, CC Plus allows students to continue learning in their Classical Conversations Challenge community while completing college-level coursework online with university professors.
