►Members “Youth” with focus on ages 8-18, with Families (all Ages) welcome.
►Recruitment: We focus on recruiting Pe
ople who have Never been a part of Reenacting, whose Parents are Not already Invested (or Interested) in Reenacting; so YVR has to Supply all Kits for Youth who will quickly Outgrow them, and whose Parents are Not Reenactors & Not going to Pay High Prices for their Clothing. By YVR Recruiting Youth who were Not already involved in Reenacting, and Do NOT have Parents who are Dedicated to Reenacting, YVR Boost bringing Very Young people into the Reenacting Community who would Not have ever been, and whose Parents would Not have supplied the Time, Money and Energy to get them Involved.
►YVR’s purpose is to Provide YOUTH an Opportunity to Enjoy History through “Play”, Fun and Active Learning via Living History and Reenacting. Our Historical focus in on “Local” history (which Provides members with a “Connection” to that History), which for most of our Members is (South) Hampton Roads, Virginia (Portsmouth, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk and surrounding / historically connecting Areas).
►Impressions: Multiple Impressions of Units that were in Hamton Roads in 1775-1781, both Colonial/American and British/Crown Forces, generally Organized by the British “Campaigns” (Dunmore’s Campaign, Lelsie’s Campaign, Arnold’ Campaign etc.).
►YVR Board of Directors (Adults) began with the Purpose of our Children and Youth Members being able to Participate, that is why we Exist, and why we spend our personal Time, Energy, Money and Resources in order to Provide Kits for a large number of People. We try to Make everything ourselves (We Hand-Sewn our own Uniforms, Leather Gear, Hats, Coats etc.) and have to make everything for Multiple People (We have to Make 20 Coats, not just 1, for an Impression).
►YVR has brought Hundreds of People into Reenacting that would never have been otherwise, at a very Young age so they have a Lifetime left to give to the Reenacting Community, all by making Reenacting as Assessable as Possible to our Members. Most of our Youth grow up to Join the Military or go to College (or both) and continue the Passion for History they Learn through YVR.
