𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫 & 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐞: 𝐒𝐄𝐒 𝐑𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 - 𝐉𝐚𝐧. 𝟐𝟐, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔
Join us Thursday, January 22nd from 5:30-7:30 PM for our long-cherished tradition, the SES Riparian Festival. We gather in community to celebrate our 3rd-8th grade students' work - from 3-5 storylines, writing and artwork, to 6-8 projects based on their thematic years (forests, rivers, oceans and mountains), the Riparian Festival will have activities for all ages. Classrooms are open for touring so you can see what the students have been learning. Even if you don’t have a student in 3rd-8th, it is worth checking out what is to come.

In addition there will be a wonderful homemade lasagna dinner in the cafeteria (BRING YOUR OWN MESS KIT TO REDUCE WASTE! Dinner is free to all, suggested $5 donation.). Treats and sweets also provided. We will finish up the evening with a full school sing-along in the auditorium at 7:15pm led by our very own SES staff musicians. It is a wonderful, warm night intended to bring our community together in fellowship around our school’s unique curriculum and mission.

Our winter afterschool enrichment classes—running January through March—are filling quickly, but there’s still time to sign up! If your student is interested, we encourage you to register soon to secure a spot.
This season’s lineup includes:

• Adventures in Spanish (1st-4th) – playful, immersive language learning
• Electronic Music Club (2nd-5th) – beat-making and sound exploration
• Experiment PDX Lego Robotics (1st-5th) – hands-on engineering with LEGO robotics
• Journey to STEAM: Scratch Coding (2nd-5th) – creative coding projects
• Reign Basketball (k-6th) – skills, drills, and teamwork
• Yoga Playgrounds (k-3rd) – fun, strength-building yoga and mindful movement

The Winter Craft Fair is on! December 12th, 4 pm-6pm, and it's sure to be a blast! There will be over 70 crafty participants, a great community supported raffle from companies like Everett House, One with Heart, Hazelwood Clay, The Hangout, Porch Light, Echo Theater, etc., and a bake sale!

Does an Early Release Day really mess with your work/life schedule? Need something for your younger kids to do? WE GOT YOU! Support our Middle School students and their fundraising efforts for Marine Biology Trips, by registering your K-4th grader for this special Early Release Edition of Parents’ Night Out.

8th graders will pick your kid up from their classroom right before early release dismissal, and spend the afternoon playing games, eating snacks, and making crafts! Secure that much-needed child care assist while supporting our middle schoolers service and fundraising efforts.

Start saving those aluminum cans, SES! We are expanding our efforts to participate in the blue bag can recycling program to raise funds for our middle school trips (the SES Go Fund). This is an easy way to raise up to thousands of dollars a year for our students – if we have widespread school participation.

Pick up a pre-labeled blue bag with our unique QR code from the office, at the Friday afternoon 8th grade fundraising sales, or at most Sunnyside community events from here on out.
Fill each bag until full!
