As a CAC Community Purposeful Play Coach (CPPC) with The Girls Foundation of Tanzania, Fred believes that play has the power to do much more than entertain.

Through Purposeful Play, he helps children and young people build confidence, develop teamwork, learn important life skills, and discover their own abilities.

What inspires Fred most is seeing how play creates opportunities for people to be themselves, make mistakes, learn from them, and try again without fear.

"For me, play is a powerful tool for bringing people together and creating positive change."

From Arusha, Tanzania, Fred continues to use the power of play to create safe, inclusive, and engaging opportunities for children and communities to learn and grow together.

A day full of movement, laughter, teamwork, and joy, this is what community-powered change looks like. Sport has the power to teach confidence, connection, and life skills that go far beyond the field. 🏃

This past week, TGFT High School Graduate Janeth, represented us at the Nanenane Exhibition 2026, hosted by Twende Social Innovation Centre, showcasing our chicken plucking machine to hundreds of visitors.

Janeth spent the week demonstrating how the machine works, explaining its benefits, and most importantly, listening.

Visitors asked real questions: How many chickens can it process? What power does it need? How long will it last? Where can you get spare parts?

These are exactly the questions that help us grow. As a first prototype, each question is a chance to test, improve, and build a machine that can properly serve the people who’ll use it every day.

Innovation isn’t built in isolation, it’s shaped by the people it’s meant to serve. We are grateful for every visitor who stopped by, asked questions, and shared their needs with us.

Onward to the next round of testing! 🛠️

Last week’s Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Gender-Based Violence brought together government leaders, civil society, teachers, health workers, religious leaders, journalists, and young people in Dar es Salaam all united around one message: we must move from reacting to GBV to preventing it.

Key takeaways from TGFT’s Program Officer, Hellen:
✅ Prevent GBV before it starts, at home, in schools, in communities
✅ Involve young people as partners, not just beneficiaries
✅ Follow through after reporting with coordinated and continued support
✅ Show up as parents, friends, teachers, media, religious leaders, and institutions

At The Girls Foundation of Tanzania, this work is central to our mission. Every girl deserves an education free from fear, and a community that protects her right to learn, grow, and thrive. Prevention isn’t separate from education, it’s the foundation it’s built on. 💜

This June, thanks to your support, we conducted our first STEM workshop at The Girls Centre. Over the course of four days, we witnessed 40 students discover how science, technology, engineering and mathematics intersect with their lives through project-based learning and teamwork.

⚽ Girl Power on the Field: Kiranyi Girls Soccer Club ⚽

At the end of July, 16 talented girls from Kiranyi Girls Soccer Club came together for two hours of football, focus, and fun, led by Coach Fred!

This session’s spotlight: Teamwork and Effective Communication. From passing drills to small scrimmages, the girls practiced working together, speaking up, and supporting one another on and off the field.

The club meets twice a month at The Girls Centre, building not just stronger players, but stronger leaders, more confident young women, and a tighter community, one session at a time. 🌟

At TGFT, we believe every girl deserves a safe, inclusive space to grow, both on the pitch and in life. 💪

💚 Two more successful Environmental Club sessions at Arkatan Primary School!

Our work is proudly powered by the methodology from Coaches Across Continents , a global network active in 130+ countries that uses sport and play to drive lasting community change.

On 15 & 21 July 2026, a combined 258 students (169 girls, 89 boys) from Class 5, 6 & 7 spent 2-hours per session learning alongside coaches Fred, Neema, Brenda, and Hellen.

Together they covered:

🌳 Environmental & wildlife conservation: waste management, tree planting, sustainable practices, and protecting natural resources & biodiversity

💗 Reproductive health & rights: puberty, hygiene, consent, protection from abuse, and responsible decision-making

🌟 Self-awareness: understanding personal strengths and values, setting goals, and building confidence and self-esteem

Students walked away informed, confident, and ready to be positive role models at home and in school. 🙌
