Science was served with a side of pancakes last week at Highlands!

Mr. Forrest’s 5th grade students put their learning into action during a hands-on Solutions Lab. Students explored mixtures, solutions, and chemical changes by mixing ingredients and turning them into pancakes. But the learning didn’t stop there!

Our 5th graders stepped into the role of communicators and shared their learning with our 1st grade students, explaining the science behind the process before serving them the finished pancakes.

This is IB learning in action! Through inquiry, collaboration, and authentic experiences, our students aren’t just learning science concepts. They’re applying their knowledge, communicating their understanding, and taking action by sharing their learning with others.

Way to go, Mr. Forrest’s 5th graders! 🥞🔬🦉

Highlands Spirit Night is this Friday, September 25th!

Join us at Randall Reed Stadium for a fun night of school spirit, football, and a special on-field experience for our students!

Families participating in Spirit Night should arrive by 6:30 PM and meet in the Community Room at the north end of the stadium near the fountain. Look for our campus sign when you arrive.

🏈 Friday, September 25th, 2026
⏰ Check-in: 6:30 PM
🏟️ Kickoff: 7:00 PM
📍 Randall Reed Stadium

Students participating in the runout will receive sunglasses that serve as their ticket back into the stadium. Parents may accompany their student onto the field, and each family will receive four football game tickets at check-in.

After the runout, everyone will exit the field and re-enter the stadium through the Home VIP Gate next to the field exit gate.

Come decked out in your school spirit and help us show up BIG! The elementary campus with the highest student participation will receive a percentage of the evening’s concession proceeds from Saltgrass.

We can’t wait to see our families under the Friday night lights! 🏈

Your child says they are 'in a unit.' Here is what that means.

A unit of inquiry is a multi-week investigation organized around a central idea; one theme that is worth thinking hard about. Something like: 'Communities depend on systems to meet their needs.'

Underneath that central idea sit lines of inquiry, which are the specific angles the class explores. Reading, writing, math, science, and social studies all get pulled in where they genuinely fit.

Six units. One school year. Every grade level. That is the shape of a PYP education.

Meet the team behind the programme.

Our Head of School, Deputy Head of School, Coordinator of IB PYP, two Instructional Coaches, SPED Facilitator, Counselor, and Campus Academic Facilitator work together to support teachers, strengthen instruction, and ensure inquiry-based learning comes to life across our campus.

Meet the people helping our Owls grow as knowledgeable, reflective, and internationally minded learners.

Every IB campus runs on a strong team, and ours is worth knowing.

Our Head of School provides the vision and leadership that keep inquiry at the heart of our campus. Our Coordinator of IB PYP guides the programme of inquiry, supports unit planning, and helps ensure we remain aligned with IB standards and practices.

Our Deputy Head of School, two Instructional Coaches, and Campus Academic Facilitator work alongside teachers to strengthen instruction, support meaningful collaboration, and help turn the PYP framework into engaging learning experiences for every Owl.

Our Counselor and SPED Facilitator work with our staff and students to maintain support and positive relationships amongst all of us here on our campus and community.

Together, this team helps our teachers create classrooms where students ask questions, make connections, reflect on their learning, and take meaningful action.

Stop by and say hello. We love talking about this work!
