With Play – I just got recognized as one of their top fans! 🎉

Play Toys & Games 🎁 is an incredible toy store
my wife and I had the pleasure to visit in the Chicago area! We went to the OG in Logan Square while visiting our daughters, but they have 5 locations with an incredible selection of games, toys, and books for kids of all ages!

We got some great birthday shopping done for our grands!!

We've been introducing you to Gingerbread Joe...

But today...

We thought you deserved a tiny peek inside his very first adventure. 👀 📖✨

Every page was created with one goal...

❤️ To make children smile.
🏃 To inspire them to get up and move.
✨ To spark their imagination.

And most importantly, to just be a kid and have FUN!

And this is only the beginning of Gingerbread Joe's adventure.

The books are on their way to us now, and we are counting down the days until we can finally share the whole story with you this July!

📚 IT'S HAPPENING...

There are moments you dream about for a very long time...
..and then one day, they become real.

Today, we received these photos from the printer.

One Thousand copies of Get Up And Go Gingerbread Joe® are stacked on pallets, wrapped up, and getting ready to begin their journey to us.

Seeing this gave us goosebumps.

Not because they're boxes of books...

But because each one will soon be opened by a child, read at bedtime, shared by grandparents, and become part of a family's memories.

That's why we created Gingerbread Joe.

❤️ To encourage kids to get up, explore, imagine, and enjoy the adventure of reading.

This is just the beginning.

📦 The books are on their way, and they'll be available this July!

His biggest adventure is about to begin... and we can't wait to share it with you.

In just a few weeks, Get Up And Go Gingerbread Joe® will officially be available, and we're so excited to finally introduce him to families everywhere.

Over the coming weeks, you'll get to know Joe, meet some of his friends, peek inside the book, and follow along as we count down to launch day.

I didn’t plan to come home with a stuffed Curious George and a Highlights magazine, but it turned out to be the best decision ever.

A quick walk turned into a free yard sale treasure hunt.

Most people walked past them.

I saw:
📚 a childhood favorite
🐵 a curious little monkey
✏️ years of teaching memories

Turns out, you can retire the teacher out of the classroom, but you can’t retire the classroom out of the teacher.

Some habits never leave you. Spotting books, encouraging curiosity, and getting excited about learning are apparently lifelong conditions.

And honestly? I’m okay with that.

We thought we were bringing kids a fun literacy adventure… 🍪📚
But today, we opened a package that reminded us it became so much more than that ❤️
Handmade cards.�Sweet thank you notes.�Drawings of Gingerbread Joe.
One class even glued their gingerbread men to the paper so they “couldn’t run away” 😂🍪
And honestly?�That absolutely melted us.
Sometimes you don’t realize how much kids connected with an experience until you see it through THEIR eyes ✨
The laughter.�The excitement.�The memories they carried home afterward.
That’s why we do this ❤️
Thank you to the amazing students and teachers at Community Action Head Start in Three Rivers for making our day with your kindness 🫶🍪 📚

Not gonna lie… the kids took this VERY seriously 🍪❤️😂

And honestly?
That’s exactly why interactive literacy experiences work so well 📚✨

The kids weren’t just decorating a gingerbread man…

They were becoming PART of the story.

The excitement.
The creativity.
The tiny frosting-covered fingers 😂
The anticipation of what Gingerbread Joe would do next 👀🏃‍♂️

That’s the kind of learning kids actually remember ❤️

Because when reading feels hands-on, exciting, and a little chaotic…
