Kitchen Hack Saturday: knife holder from outdated grains and beans

I don’t like knife blocks, never have. I’m into creatively reusing, and the thought came: What about storing knives in sand? Then the idea morphed into how about using those outdated beans and grains? They'd be easy on the blades.

First, I thought of using a mason jar, but this glass bread pan jumped up and cried “Me first!”.

A bread pan is perfect for steak-knives, scissors, a cheese cutter or two. I put a thin layer of rock salt in the bottom to absorb any moisture, but I’ll also dry my knives... Sure it won’t last forever, but long enough,🤓 and then into the compost.

* If you're afraid of pests, toss everything in peppermint oil
