Does your child ask for MORE time doing academics? Our learners do!

Acton Academy Port St. Lucie
Learn to learn, learn to do, learn to be.
Two things we do differently than most schools.
First, we give children freedom so they learn how to use it.
Second, we let them have space to have conflict, while equipping them with tools to resolve them.
Hear it from one of our elementary learners, who now loves and attends Acton after years at alternative and public schools.
There are a lot of ways to learn.
What makes Acton different is the community — you get a hub of a trust where children of all ages are able to interact with each other.
When young people feel trusted, welcomed, and connected, they thrive. Hearing this testimonial from a learner who’s experienced multiple alternative schools, hybrid homeschool programs, etc. says more than we ever could.
There’s no such a thing as a child “being behind.”
It’s based on an outdated notion that has permeated education in the U.S. for decades that each child is supposed to be at a certain place at an arbitrarily set time frame.
Studies confirm that many of these arbitrary standards, especially those for early elementary ages, have no impact on long-term success.
What children need is freedom, so they can take the time they need to truly master their learning, while also enjoying it.
There are all kinds of reasons to love your school, homeschool group, etc.
Maybe it’s your friends. Maybe it’s free time.
What does one of our heroes say? Being able to win some donuts every week.
How do they win them? By playing a game with the guides: 3Bs before G.
Esch guide at Acton promises to never answer questions. This empowers heroes at Acton to learn independent problem solving. If a guide answers a question, the learners get a point.
But if the learners don’t use their 3 B’s — brain, buddy, or book/board — to solve their problem before asking the G (guide), the guides get a point.
Whoever gets the most points gets donuts at the end of the week 🍩
It’s how we gamify learning for the real world.
Town Hall at Acton Academy is an experience like no other.
It’s an opportunity to address Studio needs of any variety. From “Do we need official rules for Sharks & Minnows at free time to make sure people feel like it’s fair?” to “I feel like we need a new system for distractions because people aren’t focusing” — whatever they feel is important for the studio to address.
Any learner can propose a problem AND a solution.
So take this Town Hall. One learner wants to make it so everyone can call out Rules of Engagement during our discussions, not just the two designated people who they’ve voted to do it. Here, you can see two learners going back and forth to understand and challenge each other.
The lessons being learned:• How to clearly state their positions• How to listen without interrupting• How to respond directly to opposing viewpoints• How to disagree respectfully
Are there any we missed?
Reading shouldn’t be an assignment to complete. All that does is make it something to check a box off for, not something to be done so you LOVE it.
At Acton, reading is a daily ritual we protect.
This practice is called DEAR Time — Drop Everything And Read. 📚
During DEAR, the entire studio stops. No transitions. No multitasking. No noise.
Every learner reads at the same time.
They are reading independently, but they are doing it together. If they don’t know how to read yet, they can look at pictures.
This matters because it communicates something powerful: Reading is important enough that everything else can wait.
And we don’t care if it’s a comic book or a newspaper — we just want you to read.

Want your child to experience hands-on engineering and creative tech — for FREE?
Join us March 3, 6:00–7:30 PM for our LEGO Maker Event at Acton Academy Port St. Lucie!
Instead of sitting through a presentation, children jump straight into building, testing, designing, and creating from the moment they arrive.
Throughout the evening, they rotate through interactive stations where they might compete in a LEGO® Battle Bots arena, experiment with engineering challenges, create spin art using a Lego machine, or try their hand at stop-motion movie making.
This is a come-and-go event, and parents stay so you can see firsthand how we run engaging, project-based STEAM programs.
It’s a great way to experience the energy and creativity of our camps in a low-pressure setting.
Every family who attends can also enter to win a free week of summer camp. Spots are limited, so we recommend registering in advance.
