One important part of our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) approach is that we don’t wait for students to get something wrong before we teach them what’s expected. We proactively teach, model, practice, and give kids a chance to ask questions.

This week and next, our recess team is visiting every classroom to teach playground expectations and, just as importantly, explain the why behind them. Sometimes understanding why a rule exists is all a child needs to make the choice to follow it.

Taking time to teach expectations now helps kids feel confident, keeps our playground safe and fun, and sets us up for a great year! 💙⭐

Here are a few important calendar reminders as we kick off the school year:

There is no late start on Wednesday September 2 or September 9. The first late start Wednesday is September 16.

There is no school on Friday, September 4th and Monday, September 7th.

We’re grateful for the SKSD facilities crew! They’ve been hard at work all summer keeping up on routine maintenance, dressing fields at the high school, painting parking lots (ours looks wonderful), and completing HVAC and plumbing repairs and new installs. Thank you!!

🚗 IMPORTANT TRAFFIC FLOW INFO FOR THE FIRST DAY! 🚗Please help us make our first-day arrival as smooth and safe as possible!
💜 The lane marked in purple on the image is for drive-through student drop-off only. Please pull through, help your child exit the vehicle, and keep moving. There is no parking in the purple lane.

⚾ First Day Only: Overflow parking will be available on the baseball field for families who would like to walk their children to class.

Beginning Tuesday, families who wish to park and walk their children to class will need to use a designated parking space.

Help your child know where to go! Remind them to look for their classroom’s corresponding animal picture. The same animal will be posted outside their classroom or where they line up on the playground to help them find their way.

And don’t worry—we’ll have lots of staff outside and around the building ready to help students get where they need to go! 💙🌟
