On September 11, 2001, FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller had just finished his shift and was planning to spend the day golfing. Then he learned about the attacks. The Brooklyn Battery Tunnel was closed, so he strapped on nearly 60 pounds of firefighting gear and ran on foot toward the towers, and he gave his life helping others.

His story inspired the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. And on September 24, Harrison native Nick Spano and his company uSTADIUM are filling Harrison Meadows Country Club for their 3rd Annual Charity Golf Classic to support it, playing the round Stephen never got to.

I played this festival last year with my band, back when it was still in June. They moved it into Halloween season this year, and that changes everything about it.

Sleepy Hollow in October is already the busiest that town gets. Now there is a full day of live music sitting in the middle of it.

Everclear. The Smithereens with Marshall Crenshaw. Fastball. Two stages, no overlapping sets. You will not miss anything.

Costume parade. Mustache contest. Food trucks. And a Headless Horseman galloping in front of the stage between bands.

The fastest woman ever to swim a 50 meter freestyle grew up in Pelham.

Kate Douglass broke the world record twice on August 15. She went 23.49 in the morning heats at the Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, then came back that night and went 23.19. Two world records in one day, and the record she was chasing in the morning was the one she'd set herself back in June.

Here's the Westchester part. She was born in Pelham in 2001, she's Pelham Memorial High School class of 2019, and she swam for the Westchester Aquatic Club from the time she was 7 years old. She also has five Olympic medals, 15 NCAA titles and a master's degree in statistics, which at this point is just showing off.

She told SwimSwam she had to do a few double takes when she saw the time on the board.

Lisa Lisa is performing at Yonkers Riverfest tomorrow, and nobody is charging you a dime to see it.

Riverfest runs noon to 7 at 1 Larkin Plaza. The Lady Gaga Experience featuring Haus of Monsters goes on at 4:10, DJ Frankie Cutlass takes over at 5:20, and Lisa Lisa closes it out at 6:30. Three stages, 140 plus vendors, and nobody takes a ticket at the gate.

Organizers credit the City of Yonkers and Mayor Mike Spano for getting acts this size down to the water. He calls Riverfest one of the best days of the year in Yonkers, and tomorrow is the one to prove it.

This one's for the people who'll drive 40 minutes for a good dumpling. You know who you are. I am too.

Nan Xiang has been the soup dumpling spot in Flushing since 2006, recommended by the Michelin Guide nine years running, and it now has a Westchester address: 27 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains.

Nan Xiang isn't a made-up brand name. Nanxiang is a real, ancient town in Shanghai's Jiading District, and it's where the soup dumpling was created back in the 1800s. The sign out front is basically a birth certificate.

Every wrapper gets pleated by hand in an open kitchen, so you can sit there and watch your dinner get built. And if you can't commit, the Lucky Six brings you six different fillings in one basket.

From our friends at Not Upstate Food Network: three Westchester restaurants have been open for a combined 230 years, and none of them ever left their original town. Roma has served pizza in Tuckahoe since 1931. Johnny's has served pizza in Mount Vernon since 1942, baked in coal ovens by the same family that opened it. Sam's has fed Dobbs Ferry for over 60 years. Different towns, different decades, same neighborhoods still showing up. What's the oldest restaurant still open where you grew up?

Every Life Saver you've ever unwrapped has a Westchester return address.

From 1920 to 1984, Port Chester was home to the factory that made them. A five-story building with giant candy rolls built right into its walls, cranking out over 600 million rolls a year at its peak.

The factory's gone, but the story isn't. Did you know Life Savers came from right here in the 914?

Armonk has turned its whole downtown into a scavenger hunt. There are twenty little heart sculptures sitting inside shops all over town right now. Not in a gallery, inside the actual stores you already walk into. They went up on August 26, there's a printable map, and they stay put until the Armonk Outdoor Art Show at the end of September.

Every heart is by a different artist from the show. Carol Luz painted her Jack Russell terrier carrying a basket of hearts past a "Love Lives Here" sign, which might be the most Armonk image ever committed to a heart. Three Byram Hills High School students, Adley Aronsky, Shannon Moloney and Daniela Marder, made one together. Another Byram Hills student, Nate Zipper, shot the photos of all twenty.

All twenty are going up for auction. Bidding opens September 16 and closes at 5 p.m. on September 27, with net proceeds going to the Friends of the North Castle Public Library. Twenty hearts hiding in plain sight around town, quietly paying for library programs.

The show itself is the 64th one: about 160 juried artists, more than 300 volunteers, September 26 and 27 at Community Park.
