The Texas State University System Board of Regents confirmed the appointment of Dr. John Hayek as president of Lamar State College - Port Arthur. Dr. Hayek, who has served as interim president since January, was unanimously confirmed at the board’s quarterly meeting in Austin.

Texas State University System Chancellor Brian McCall has appointed Dr. John Hayek as the next President of Lamar State College - Port Arthur, pending approval of the Board of Regents at its May 2026 meeting. Dr. Hayek has served as Interim President of Lamar State College Port Arthur since January 2026.

Yesterday marked a major step forward for educational opportunity in Southeast Texas.

Lamar State College Port Arthur, in partnership with TotalEnergies and regional leaders, officially celebrated the launch of our new Machinist and Millwright program—the only program of its kind in our region!

Designed in direct collaboration with industry, this program is already equipping students with the skills and hands-on experience needed for high-demand careers that power Southeast Texas.

We were proud to celebrate alongside the Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce, the City of Port Arthur, our industry partners, and our first cohort of students leading the way.
