Surviving the Spring Semester: Scholar Distractions are Potentially High

During this time of the year, it may feel like you can never teach a full week.
Just when the unit is flowing, events such as state mandated assessments and spring break halt your plans.
As educators, we become adept at restructuring the curriculum to accommodate those expected and unexpected changes. But adjusting to futile behaviors that may arise can be somewhat of a challenge.
How do you combat the management and engagement challenges of spring?
You can do this by resetting your classroom.
1) Revisit your expectations
2) Change seating arrangements
3) Utilize manageable activities
These few suggestions can help alleviate some of the distractions faced during spring semester.

Sunday Seasoning:
Brain breaks are necessary especially right now. Be sure to give your scholars and yourself a brain break.
The goal of brain breaks is to help the brain shift focus. These breaks are short and energizing. Research shows that the brain breaks increase scholars’ on task behavior.

Looking 4 Black young men.

There is a program between Tennessee State University and Meharry Medical College where the student would go to TSU for three years and then on to Meharry and finish to become an MD or DDS in 7 years instead of the traditional 8 years.

There are enough females enrolled already but no black males. If you know any black males who are high school seniors who want to become a medical doctor, have a 28 on the ACT and a 3.5 GPA, there is possibly a free ride for them at Tennessee State University. You can send prospective candidates information to: [email protected]
She will forward to President Glover and Mrs. Barbara Murrell.

The student’s info needs to be submitted ASAP.
