The 2019 J. Minnie Smith reunion will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, in the newly remodeled fellowship hall of Bible Baptist Church, 549 S. C St.

Mark your calendars, and plan to bring a side dish. Meat and beverages will be provided. Please spread the word so that we can have a big turnout!

J. Minnie Smith started her teaching on the eastside of Poplar Bluff in a small one room building in September 1897.

The Eastside School, destroyed by the May 9, 1927 tornado which two 4th grade boys lost their lives. In the building that day were 278 students, 8 teachers and 2 custodians. We persevered and the school was reopened in November, 1927 under the name J. Minnie Smith.
