Dear Participants of the Keep Your Fork 5K Run,
We are sad to report that the Keep Your Fork Run Committee has decided once again to cancel the 2021 race due to the current and ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. We feel that many of you, our participants, would be apprehensive about gathering to run the race live and in person since there will be people coming from various states on Thanksgiving weekend. Recently there has been an upswing of the number of cases in our region and the delta variant is proving to be a much more communicable strain. Covid-19 is a very real virus and lives are at stake. Anything that we can do to slow the spread of the disease, we believe we should do. Therefore, we are not going to host the event, out of an abundance of caution.
Although this is the second year that we have been unable to host the race, we are eternally grateful for everyone who has dug deeply into their pockets every year prior to help make this event possible. Through your generosity, we have been able to grow the race and the scholarship fund to a level that we are truly proud of. To date, we have given out 38 scholarships to deserving Meigs High School Graduates. So amazing! But we are not done by any means. We will survive this setback which recent years have delivered, and will be right back to racing again, hopefully as soon as 2022. And we pray that we can count on your participation again at that time.
The BTMS officers still plan on awarding scholarships in the spring of the coming year, so any financial help that we receive is truly a blessing. Thank you for everything that you have done for us in the past, and may the future be brighter for us all.
Additionally, if you still have the itch to be racing, you are welcome to enter the River City Runners Virtual Race Series. The RCR and Keep Your Fork 5K have partnered in previous years to provide race day scoring and racing opportunities for the members of our local community. With that said, due to the nature of road racing in the current pandemic, ANYONE ANYWHERE can help the RCR achieve their mission of wellness and charitable giving by entering one of our races. Due to the KYF 5K being cancelled, RCR has added a virtual 5K opportunity in the month of November. Check out the RCR website to sign up or learn more at www.rivercityrunners1.com.
Thanks, and stay healthy!
Sincerely,
The Keep Your Fork 5K Run Committee
