Congratulations to Biodiversity Research Institute! I am so thrilled for the organization, and honored to be an adjunct and to have been part of the Kenya field team this past spring.

The Biodiversity Research Institute's expansion on Canco Road is expected to cost $3 million. American Building Group, a construction company also located on Canco Road, will manage the project. Whipple|Callender Architects in Portland provided the design.

This is so beautiful and so true.

"The way we see the world shapes
the way we treat it. If a mountain
is a deity, not a pile of ore;
if a river is one of the veins of the
land, not potential irrigation water;
if a forest is a sacred grove, not timber; if other species are our
biological kin, not resources;
or if the planet is our mother,
not an opportunity - then we will
treat each one with greater respect. That is the challenge, to look at the world from a different perspective."

Throughout these difficult months, and throughout my recovery, I found sanctuary in my home habitat. I rooted into the beauty and aliveness of my gardens and woods. I found a deep well of healing, stability, and strength right outside my own door. https://mailchi.mp/5ac2bc996c14/habitat-heals-ecology-at-the-edge

Witch Hazel is flowering in my area now! Here's a poem I wrote in 2021.

Oh, Witch Hazel

How your fall flowers enchant me.

Bright yellow tendrils,

So delicate and brave -
..as frost nears...

A subtle surprise.

All other blooms, long since faded

In these quieting woods.

Wow. Close encounter! Don’t mess with a rutting bull.

I wonder how the moose would’ve responded if he spoke in a different tone while he was slowly backing up?
