We’re highlighting a few of our nuclear engineering students and the internships they had over the summer. First up is Alexis Olaveson!

Alexis served as the Aqueous Purification Research Intern at Los Alamos National Laboratory, studying chromium sorption capabilities using hematite and zeolite in nitric acid. This laboratory research focused on removing chromium from wastewater through sorption-based methods.

We recently welcomed our next cohort of SPARK a FIRE scholars to campus!

The SPARK a FIRE program is open to academically talented students who transfer to ISU and major in biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or chemistry. Eligible scholars receive a scholarship award of up to $10,000 as well as access to resources specific to the transfer student experience.

The Department of Chemistry is kicking off the semester with their Fall Welcome Event on Tuesday, September 1, from 4:30–6:30 p.m. in the Physical Science Atrium.

Congrats, Darcy Whitehead, on earning one of the Undergraduate Scholarships from the Intermountain Section of the American Water Works Association!

Darcy is a senior majoring in civil engineering, and the scholarships support "students in the field of water quality, supply, and treatment in the Intermountain West." Looking ahead, Darcy plans to continue working on municipal water/wastewater projects throughout Idaho, with the long-term goal of earning her Professional Engineer license. Outside of work, you'll find her skiing, kayaking, and rock climbing.
