For Wiley Ewing '29, being a Cardinal means more than what happens on the field.

At JPII, Wiley has found a community where football, faith, friendship, and personal growth come together. One of his favorite traditions is spending time in the chapel with his teammates before games for a chance to pause, pray, and remember they’re playing for something bigger than themselves.

That mindset extends beyond football. After years of dedication to taekwondo, Wiley became a 2026 ATA World Champion in Combat Sparring, bringing the same discipline and perseverance to his goals for the future.

A day to connect, grow, and make memories!

Our freshman stepped away from the classroom for a retreat filled with community, faith, and plenty of fun. From Mass and small groups and sports outside, to writing letters to their senior year self, students had the chance to get to know one another and begin building the friendships that will shape their JPII experience.

“My faith and my job are inseparable!”

For Cristy Mercado Ezquer, being a Theology Teacher and Campus Minister means creating space for students to ask questions, explore their faith, and discover what they’re passionate about.

From studying theology in Austria to meeting Pope Francis in Rome, Cristy’s journey has taken her through experiences that have shaped the way she sees God, learning, and community.

Now at JPII, she says her favorite part of the job is simple: getting to know her students and hearing their perspectives.
