This July 9-13 I'll be back at University of North Texas to teach at the new .suzuki.institute. Shout out to all my colleagues at North Texas Suzuki Association who are making it an essential part of our institute to enrich the students' learning with our Creative Improvisation class and also Mexican folk music as part of their Suzuki Institute experience. If you haven't gotten the scoop yet on what's happening check out those pages! The deadline to register is coming up.

New bow day. No surprise that had the perfect match for this cello, every time we leave the shop our students are thrilled with what they got

One of our favorite people Georgia Rae is visiting our studio next month! Our Saturday January 13th day is open to the public and there will be a mix of player levels from complete improv beginners to jam circle veterans. We got beats, chops, crazy grooves, Georgia's famous fiddle styles and there's room for string players wherever they're at. We'd say we're excited for this one but words don't do it justice, check it out!

They're just getting started on cello and they're already having a great time

One of this Summer's highlights was playing for kids at the GDYO Summer Strings Camp--for the first tune I wanted to let them hear what it's like to make a song by looping one part at a time. I started with this unscripted improv jam partly because I wanted to kick it off with a more open and casual vibe, but mostly because that's my favorite way to play lately--starting from scratch and seeing where the sounds go.

Shout out to Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra for inviting me to perform and teach at the camp, it was a great week!

Powerslide (Cello, Bass and Drum Machine) 04/29/2021

Recording new music in the studio is great but it's extra special when a student is eagerly leading the way. Henry and I took turns creating parts and recording them, and made the music video with old footage from a Practice Challenge skate park trip. What started as just a song idea turned into a real behind the scenes trip on music and video production, working together every step of the way :)

Powerslide (Cello, Bass and Drum Machine) Made a track for cello and 5 string bass...this time it's a collab with a very inventive cello student. We did the whole process together on every step--jamm...

In the studio using some lesson time to write and record a song together. Henry has grown a lot since our last YouTube video so when he asked about making a new one we knew it was time to work together on the entire process of making a music video, from start to finish

Our shifty shifting jam Mausenbunker is back--we use this loop in group class and soon you can use it too. But it's the weekend so I'm gonna have some fun with it first before showing the shift practice
