There are few books I’d recommend more than this compilation of MLKs work. Do yourself, your community, your patients and the world a favor, and devour this book.

I know you think you know what King stood for. I know you think the image that exists in your head must be real because it is ubiquitous. But I assure you, King was more than two lines from one speech. He was a fantastic orator, but you should know him for his mind, for his thoughts, for his theories… and how all of that evolved over time. Go beyond “I Have A Dream”. Read more than “The Letter from Birmingham Jail.” Find out what King actually meant by the nonviolent movement. Find out why King was unsure about the plan to integrate. No more relying on out-of-context quotes. Go find out if you actually agree with him… and why.

Chris Gilbert, M.D., Ph.D., is an Integrative and Holistic Medicine physician, focusing mostly on public speaking. For 15 years she was in private practice in California, specializing in the combination of Western and Eastern Medicine and dedicating her life to treating and curing symptoms and illnesses that other physicians haven’t been able to address.

In Dr. Gilbert's article titled "A Creative Recipe to Better Appreciate Life", she explains that sometimes imagination is the key to appreciating what we have! "Our brain is ruled by the Weber-Fechner laws, which explain how we perceive change. When there is no change, our brain doesn’t pay attention to and is sometimes not even aware of, what we have. But when there is a stimulus, our brain perceives the intensity of change proportionate to the intensity of the pre-existing stimulus."
