The UT Dallas Choirs have now reached the largest singer enrollment in the history of our curricular choral program.

We’re grateful for every student who chose to find their voice, build community, and make music together. This milestone isn’t just about numbers. It’s about creating a place where everyone belongs. Here’s to an unforgettable year ahead. 💚🧡

We are excited to welcome Sophie Calloway as the new student assistant this year for our choirs.

Sophie has been playing piano and performing in theatre productions since she was five years old and began studying voice at age eleven. Along the way, she’s also explored guitar, ukulele, and drums. Most recently, she joined the UT Dallas Choir traveling to South Africa, where she discovered just how powerfully singing together can build community and create a true sense of belonging.

Sophie brings not only musical ability, but also a passion for organization, collaboration, and helping others. She shares our commitment to making music welcoming and accessible to people of all skill levels.

“As a student at the University of Texas at Dallas, I never imagined a scholarship would carry me from a college classroom to a concert stage an ocean away. Yet that is the gift I was given, and I am more grateful than words can express.

It was my profound privilege to travel to Sofia, Bulgaria, and Thessaloniki, Greece with the Credo Community Choir of Dallas. In Sofia, we shared the stage with the Sofia Ladies International Choir and, at Sofia University, the Angel Manolov Academic Choir. To sing among such accomplished ensembles was humbling and exhilarating.

As someone long captivated by history and Greek mythology, I could scarcely believe we performed within the Polycentric Museum of Aigai, the first capital of ancient Macedonia and the world Alexander the Great came from. As we sang, a storm broke open above us, the rain and the acoustics turning the moment into something I will never forget.

At the Hariseio Nursing Home, we sang for residents, many living with dementia. Though we shared no common language, one individual told me afterward that they understood every word — not from the lyrics, but from our faces and the way we sang. It was there that I understood music’s highest purpose is to be given to others.

I return home a better musician and a better person — endlessly grateful to Credo and to everyone whose generosity made this journey possible.”

The greatest highlight of our time in South Africa was undoubtedly the music-making. We were honored to learn from extraordinary music educators whose artistry, generosity, and passion inspired us every step of the way.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this adventure possible, and singing alongside one of South Africa’s finest choirs was simply unforgettable. A remarkable collaboration, meaningful new friendships, and memories that will last a lifetime. We can’t wait to return. 🇿🇦
