The man who once terrorized the region became a witness to the mercy and power of Jesus.

In Mark 5, Jesus delivers a man who had been possessed by a legion of demons. His life was radically transformed by the power and mercy of Christ.

Naturally, the man wanted to go with Jesus. But Jesus had another assignment for him.

"Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you." (Mark 5:19)

And that's exactly what he did!

The man who had once been a testimony to the destructive power of darkness became a testimony to the transforming power of God's grace.

What a beautiful picture of our mission as disciples of Jesus!

Consider a few questions:

- Am I telling others what Jesus has done for me?
- Who are the people closest to me who need to hear about the mercy of Jesus?
- Am I willing to serve Jesus where He sends me, even when I would prefer something else?

Don't miss that last question. The man wanted to go with Jesus, but Jesus told him to go home.

Following Jesus doesn't always mean going where we want to go. It means going where Jesus sends us.

You don't have to travel across the world to begin making disciples. Start where God has placed you. Tell others what Jesus has done for you.

You've received His mercy. Now go and proclaim His mercy!

The treasures of God's Word were never meant to stop with us.

In Matthew 13:52, Jesus describes a disciple trained for the kingdom as someone who brings treasures out of his storehouse.

What a picture of disciple-making!

We open God's Word. We discover more of the beauty, wisdom, and glory of Christ. His truth transforms our lives.

But it doesn't end there.

The more treasure Christ entrusts to us, the more treasure we have to share with others.

We don't study Scripture merely to accumulate knowledge. We study to know Christ, to become more like Him, and to equip others to know and follow Him.

Think about the beautiful progression in Matthew 13:

First, the kingdom is a treasure worth giving everything to possess (vv. 44–46).

Then, the disciple trained for the kingdom becomes someone who brings treasures out for others (v. 52).

We discover the treasure of the kingdom, and then we spend our lives helping others discover its riches.

This is disciple-making. Not simply receiving truth, but faithfully passing it on.

Who are you helping discover the riches of Christ?

“To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ.” — Ephesians 3:8

Nothing can stand in the way of the gospel’s advance.

Jesus still leads the way.

The question is not whether His mission will succeed, but whether we will faithfully participate in it.

Leverage It All for the Kingdom!

In Matthew 13:45–46, Jesus describes a merchant who discovers a pearl of extraordinary value. Recognizing its worth, he gladly sells everything he has to obtain it.

Why? Because what he was gaining was infinitely more valuable than what he was surrendering. That is the incomparable worth of the kingdom of God!

If we truly believe that knowing Christ and belonging to His kingdom is our greatest treasure, shouldn't that radically change how we live?

Our time is not merely ours to spend.

Our possessions are not merely ours to enjoy.

Our abilities are not merely ours to advance ourselves.

Our opportunities are not merely ours to pursue personal success.

Everything we have is an opportunity to glorify our King, advance His kingdom, and make disciples of Jesus Christ.

This is what disciple-making is all about. Helping people recognize the surpassing worth of Christ and then ordering their entire lives around following Him. The kingdom is worth everything. So leverage everything for the kingdom!

What are you doing with what God has entrusted to you?

It is possible to use the Bible wrongly.

In 1 Timothy 1, Paul says, “the law is good, if one uses it lawfully.” That means the problem is not always that someone has abandoned Scripture. Sometimes the problem is that Scripture is being handled in a way God never intended. A ministry leader can quote the Bible and still misuse it.

We can use Scripture to impress people instead of shepherd them.

We can use the law to crush people without pointing them to Christ.

We can emphasize secondary issues until they become central.

We can pull verses from their context to support our own ideas.

We can be technically accurate in one statement while still producing unhealthy teaching overall.

That is why ministry leaders must do more than ask, “Is this biblical?” We must also ask: Am I handling this text accurately? Am I using it according to its intended purpose? Does my teaching accord with the gospel? Is it producing spiritual health, love, holiness, and maturity?

Faithful ministry is not simply about using the Bible. It is about rightly handling the Word of truth.

Ministry leaders should never get over the fact that they are recipients of mercy before they are servants in ministry. In 1 Timothy 1, Paul remembers exactly who he was before Christ: a blasphemer, persecutor, and violent man. Then he remembers what Christ did. “I received mercy.”

The more clearly we remember the grace that rescued us, the more humbly we will lead, the more patiently we will shepherd, and the more confidently we will believe that Christ can transform others too.

Healthy ministry is built on being amazed by grace. Before we are pastors, teachers, disciplers, counselors, or leaders, we are sinners who have received mercy. May we never get over it.

E4:12 exists to help ordinary believers grow into mature disciple-makers, ministry leaders, and servants of Christ’s church.

That means theology should shape how we live.
Training should lead to ministry.
Learning should lead to obedience.
And growth should overflow into the lives of others.

We’re praying for a generation of believers who are equipped to strengthen churches, make disciples, and help others follow Jesus faithfully.

Who is one person God has placed in your life that you can help take one step closer to Christ this week?

The high service to which our Lord and King especially calls us is that of being witnesses to Him as Savior and Lord.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” — Acts 1:8

May God equip and send ordinary believers to make Jesus known.

Doctrine isn’t just for pastors and theologians. It’s for every disciple of Jesus.

What we believe about God shapes how we worship, how we suffer, how we make decisions, how we disciple others, and how we live on mission.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Dig deeply into Scripture. Know what you believe and why you believe it.

That’s a big part of what we want to cultivate through E4:12: disciples who know God deeply and are equipped to help others know Him too.
