They’re also helping the BWB with social media, marketing materials, including updates to our Annual Report. During a recent job-site visit, we had the opportunity to meet with youth interns Leo and Joey, along with the incredible owner of Bagel & Brew, one of our valued partnering employers.

It was inspiring to see Leo and Joey in action and hear how much they have grown through their work experience. Working alongside a highly diverse crew has helped them strengthen their communication, teamwork, and confidence in a real workplace setting.

We are grateful for employers like Bagel & Brew who open their doors to youth and young adults, creating meaningful opportunities for them to learn, contribute, and prepare for their futures.

Internships, summer jobs, and career readiness experiences are more than just opportunities to build a résumé — they are opportunities for young people to discover who they are, what they enjoy, and where they can see themselves in the future.

Our workforce coordinator at Drury High School shared it perfectly: “Internships, summer jobs, and career readiness experiences give students the chance to step outside the classroom and see what a career actually looks like. They help students build confidence, develop real-world skills, make professional connections, and figure out what they enjoy (or don’t enjoy!) before investing time and money into college or training.”

Romelo, our marketing intern, agrees. “As a young person myself, I understand how powerful that experience can be. I’m excited to be in a role where I can take the marketing skills I learned in the classroom and apply them in a real workplace setting. For me, the disconnect between textbooks and the workforce used to feel challenging, but this opportunity has helped me bridge that gap and strengthen my skills along the way.”

Career readiness matters because it gives students the confidence, clarity, and experience they need to take their next steps with purpose. Employers can make a lasting impact by opening their doors to youth and young adults through internships, summer jobs, and meaningful work experiences.
