Parents and teachers have no fear . . . Recess can still be fun and safe with these cool items here.

Administrators and teachers are having to examine all aspects of the school day to ensure the safety of their students.

Considerable thought and attention is being given to how they can provide students a fun and safe recess that allows students to take a break from the concentrated and rigorous academic work.

A cool idea that will keep kiddos having fun, engaged, and socially distanced is having an individual playground bucket labeled with each student's name. The bucket can be filled with some "oldies but goodies" that are sure to keep the students smiling.

Suggested items to include:

Silly putty
Jacks
Bubble wand
Colored pencils and small sketch pad
Maze or puzzle book
Clacker balls
Magnetic rattlesnake eggs
Water games like basketball or rings
Painted rock with student's name to play Hopscotch

Teachers can ask parents to donate items or make a small monetary donation to defray the cost of purchasing items.
These items can be found at dollar stores (Dollar General or Dollar Tree) or Oriental Trading.

These buckets of fun will allow students to still have fun at Recess on sunny or rainy days.

"The students who challenge teachers the most, need them the most".

Heidi McDonald

It is REALLY easy to teach students who come to school excited about learning. Teachers love to work with students who have grown up in homes with families that are invested in their child's learning and have families that support their child's learning. Teaching these students is "easy, breezy".

However, some of the best lessons that I have learned as a teacher are lessons that I have learned while working with my most difficult and challenging students. I know, I know, you are probably saying, "Yeah, right!"

Working with students that are difficult and challenging, helps me to hone my teaching strategies and methods. I consistently have to research novel techniques and strategies to make learning inviting, interesting, and engaging. When I am able to capture the attention and interest of one of my more challenging kiddos, I feel like a "Rock Star" . . . Lizzo doesn't have anything on me. LOL

While using novel teaching strategies and techniques to ignite a student's love of learning is important, by far the MOST important strategy that will get challenging students to "buy" into learning is developing and cultivating a genuine and caring relationship with these students. "Students don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care."

“True teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross; then, having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create their own.”
