Alumni Spotlight: Nate Schoonover (MPIA '24) just joined the Council on Foreign Relations as a Research Associate, Africa Studies! Here's what he had to say about his new role and some advice for students (current and future!):
“I couldn’t be more excited to be working at the Council on Foreign Relations. The culture is collaborative, the diverse and accomplished network is supportive, and the opportunities to grow personally and professionally in the field of international affairs are infinite. It’s not dissimilar to Pitt, where there are countless opportunities to expand your worldview, sharpen your hard and soft skills, strategically pursue your interests, and form lasting, meaningful relationships right at your fingertips: you just have to grab them," he shared.
"To current and prospective students, don’t pigeonhole yourself. Start learning a new language, take a class that might seem daunting and is centered around a region or subject matter that you’re unfamiliar with, partake in the DC Semester, and go to office hours (your professors want you to).”

Ridgway Center for International Security Studies, Air Force ROTC Detachment 730 and Center for Military Medicine Research, and the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh are proud to invite you to Global Landscape and Geopolitics of Space, a presentation by, and discussion with, (4-star) General David D. Thompson, Vice Chief of Space Operations, U.S. Space Force, on Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 9:30 am to 10:20 am at the O’Hara Student Center, 2nd Floor Ballroom.
As Vice Chief, General Thompson is responsible for assisting the Chief of Space Operations in organizing, training and equipping Space Forces in the United States and overseas; integrating space policy and guidance; and coordinating space-related activities for the U.S. Space Force and the U.S. Department of the Air Force. Among other things, he will discuss national and international security as it relates to space, Space Force innovation and integration with academia, industry and the community, and research and partnerships. General Thompson is a native of Ambridge, PA.
