Pitt Design Hub

Pitt Design Hub College students building real world solutions to real world problems!

Design Hub is a meeting place for creative thinkers and an incubator for student inventors. We provide the resources, connections, and skills to help students design a better future. We accomplish this through ideation sessions, educational workshops, hands-on design projects and community outreach.

Good Afternoon Designers!

We're excited to hold our first Design Hub Bootcamp session this Saturday, September 29 at 1pm in the Pitt Makerspace (Benedum B06)! At this workshop, we'll be talking about what you can expect out of these sessions and go over a quick introduction to the design process. You'll also have the opportunity to meet people who share a similar passion for innovation and solution development as you work through a rapid product design activity.

Though all Design hub members are welcome and encouraged to come, we strongly encourage freshman to attend these sessions as they are designed to help students build the knowledge, skills, and connections necessary to be confident and productive design team members. If you are interested in being on a design team in the future, your attendance at these sessions will be taken into consideration when putting teams together.

We hope to see you there!

Hey Designers!

It’s that time of year again: career fairs and interview-fests are around the corner and you’re probably looking to put yourself out there for a shot at nice internship or co-op. Though let’s face it, your resume probably isn’t as great as it could be. You probably made it MS Word or some similar program, and you’ve probably had to put up with all the issues that come with editing any typed document in them. What if you could simply create an elegant resume in a universally translatable computing language that could impress hiring managers on a whole other level?

Fret not! This week’s workshop (Tuesday 9/18 in the Makerspace at 11 AM) will provide a basic intro to the wondrous language of LaTeX (it’s not pronounced how it sounds) and how you can use it to create an effective resume. Additionally, we’ll show you what separates good from bad professional headshots to help employers put a face to your name and leave a lasting, positive impression on whoever happens to be stalking your linkedin profile.

All you need is a laptop and that can-do attitude!
We hope to see you there!

Solidworks workshop underway!!

Join us TONIGHT at 7pm for another awesome workshop!

Let’s say you’re dealing with product design, have spit-balled some solutions, and have picked one you’re comfortable with. Odds are you've hit the drawing board and have drawn a design, but don’t know how to proceed from there. Wouldn’t having something better looking than a sketch, or even, something tangible to present your findings with be great?

Fear not, fellow designers! This week’s workshop (TODAY Monday, 9/10 at 7pm in Benedum 318) will provide an introduction to rapid prototyping through 3D modeling in SolidWorks. We will cover the basics of using SolidWorks to create product prototypes through an interactive modeling exercise and how you can translate that to a physical model through Pitt’s available 3D printing services. No related experience required; we’ll show you the ropes.
