This is another exercise that is CLASSIC for being done the wrong way and causing knee/joint pain. In fact, it makes me cringe to see it done the wrong way, because I'm so worried that someone is going to hurt themselves at any moment. Here I demonstrate both the wrong and RIGHT ways to do this. Are push-ups nearly IMPOSSIBLE for you? If being on the knees doesn't help much, try starting with these options first. Try 3 sets of 15 reps 2-3 times per week. As you get stronger you'll be able to move into push-ups on the knees ... then regular push-ups .... AND BEYOND!!!!! So do these options make it doable now?

Ok here's a good way to advance from push-ups on the knees to push-ups with legs extended. Begin by doing as many push-ups as you can (up to 15) with legs extended. Feet apart are easier than feet together. If you can't finish the whole set come down onto the knees to finish (BUT KEEP YOUR TOES DOWN! - It engages the core more). Do 3 sets of 15 reps like this 2-3 times / week and you'll eventually be able to do them all with legs extended! Who has managed to cross the "full-set-with-legs-extended" threshold?
