Have you ever almost crashed into someone riding your bike or been almost run over by a car on your bike? In Allegheny County, in 2024 and 2025 in Natrona, Homewood and McKeesport, several bike riding fatalities have occurred. Out hearts go out to the families of the loved ones lost. Statewide there have been 19 deaths involving bicycles. Numerous other non-fatal crashes have occurred with many not reported at all.
To combat this rising statistic of tragedy and loss, awareness is the key. In conjunction with Allegheny County Recreation, Learn3Ride has created a class on Bicycle Safety, Riding in Groups, and Trail Etiquette.
It's the essential course for families and friends to ride in groups on the 10,000 miles of rail trails here in Pennsylvania taught IAW PA Department of Transportation Publication 380 (4-26). Learn how to ride safely and with confident consideration of other trail riders. Course consists of hands-on instruction, review of applicable laws, rider safety, hand signaling, riding in a line, crossing danger areas, riding in traffic and trail etiquette.
Prerequisites: Students must be able to start, stop, balance, pedal and turn on their own. Students must have their own bicycle and helmet. Water bottles are recommended.
The classes are held on Saturdays on North and South Park. To learn more and sign up, go to the Allegheny County Recreation registration page:

Christine, we really help parents to eliminate the frustration, tears and heartache that a lot of families experience trying to learn how to ride bicycles safely. This is accomplished by providing 2 sessions -1 hour of instruction each, at a location and time convenient to you, with training bikes provided. If you look back at our google reviews, you'll see out success stories over the years. We also understand that family budgets are stressed right now but our pricing hasn't changed since before Covid and we've done our best to keep prices affordable all thru the years we've been in business. Thanks Rich

Dear Learn3Ride,
My name is Marcus and I work with CIEE foreign exchange students.
I’m reaching out to you because I’m currently assisting a student named Paul, from Germany, with his search for a host family for the 2025-26 school year. Paul very much enjoys bicycling in his home country. He would love to find a host family for his high school exchange program who also shares his love of cycling.
Perhaps you, or one of your cycling contacts, would like to host Paul?
In addition to his enthusiasm for cycling Paul also enjoys skiing, camping, computers, and science.
Exchange students
• Come with their own health insurance
• Come with spending money
• Can take the school bus or carpool
• Can travel with their host family
• Speak English
• Are vetted and interviewed for success on the program
• Attend the local high school
Would you be willing to forward this information about Paul to your members and friends? In return, CIEE offers a $1,000 thank you gift to you if one of your referrals hosts a student!
Sincerely,
Marcus Hawkins
