Feng Shui and the Energy of Your Front Entrance
What does the outside of your home have to do with the energy inside?
In Feng Shui, it has everything to do with how energy flows through your space.
The front door is known as the “mouth of chi,” the main place where energy enters your home. If the area around your front entrance is neglected—such as a door that needs painting, a broken doorbell, or a lock that doesn’t work properly—you may unintentionally invite stagnant or negative chi into your home.
By keeping this area welcoming and well cared for, you help encourage positive, vibrant energy to flow inside.
Here are some simple Feng Shui tips for your entrance and garden:
• Keep plants healthy and vibrant. If a plant near your front door dies, remove it right away and replace it with a fresh, colorful plant. Healthy plants represent thriving energy.
• Maintain your front door. Keep it clean, freshly painted, and make sure doorbells and locks work properly.
• Ensure the door opens easily. The pathway and entrance should be clear, with nothing blocking the flow of energy.
• Add protective symbolism. Place two tall plants or decorative vases on either side of your door. In Feng Shui, these act like symbolic “guards,” protecting and balancing the entrance.
• Refresh your welcome mat. Choose one with a vibrant color or a cheerful message that truly welcomes guests and positive energy.
• Look around for inspiration. Notice homes in your neighborhood that have especially inviting entrances. Use them as inspiration to create your own beautiful and welcoming space.
